My uncle, William A. Suber was a first lieutenant during World War II and served in the Pacific around Guam and Saipan. After the war, he came home and then was recalled to duty and commissioned as a Captain, serving in the US Intelligence Service in Berlin during the 1950's. He studied and became fluent in the German language, enabling him to pass freely back and forth between East and West Berlin in his Intelligence work.Because of his blond hair and fair coloring and his mastery of the language, he could easily pass as being German, which made him extremely valuable in the work he did. I never heard him talk much at all about his experiences in the Pacific or what missions he performed in Germany.
