Josephine MacPherson (nee Sokolowska)
MARION: Josephine MacPherson (nee Sokolowska), passed away on December 2, 2010, at age 94, following a brief illness.
Josephine was born March 13, 1916 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to John and Alexandra Sokolowski.
She grew up in Philadelphia and later attended the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing there.
Josephine joined the Army Nurses Corps during World War II.
She was stationed on a secret project in the Arizona desert and then followed her battalion to Wales and London during the height of the war.
After the war she was posted at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she met her future husband; Dr. Donald MacPherson. Following their wedding in June, 1950, Josephine and Donald settled in Marion, Ohio.
She resided in Marion for 58 years.
In later years she knit many blankets for the Linus Project for children in need.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, who was a physician at Smith Clinic in 1998; she was also predeceased by her three sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by her son, John; daughter, Christina; son-in-law, Peter Maier; and grandchildren, Hannah and Jacob.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, at the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home.
Her family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Private entombment will be in the Marion Cemetery Mausoleum.
Her family suggests contributions to the Marion County Humane Society rather than floral tributes.
