MANTEO, N.C. – Sarah Eunice Bayes, born Jan. 15, 1912, passed away on Aug. 2, 2012, in Manteo, North Carolina.
The daughter of the late William and Amy (Shepherd) Bayes, After graduating from St. Margaret’s School of Nursing in Pittsburgh in 1945, Miss Bayes entered the U.S. Army and served as a second lieutenant for eight months during the Second World War.
She also attended Western Michigan College at Kalamazoo, Mich., and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she became certified in Public Health Nursing.
Later she worked for the Massillon Public Health Department in Ohio and then was Head Nurse at the Stark County Health Department in Ohio, retiring after 30 years of service.
She lived most of her life in Massillon, Ohio and wintered in Fort Myers, Fla. She also lived a few years near her nephew in Farmdale, before moving 10 years ago to Manteo to be near her niece.
There will be a funeral service at the Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home, Massillon Chapel, Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m.
Burial will be at Newman Cemetery following the service.
