Esther M. MATKIN 4/13/1920 ~ 1/10/2008 Was born and raised in Fredericksburg, TX. She entered the Santa Rosa School of Nursing in San Antonio in 1940. She joined the US Navy Nurse Corps in 1944 and served both stateside and in Guam until resigning as a Second Lieutenant in 1947. During the 1950’s and 1960’s she lived in Seattle, New Orleans, Huntsville, AL and Houston, TX. Since 1970 she resided in Bellevue, WA. She is survived by her husband, Merritt, one son, James McClellan (Carolyn) of Atlanta, GA, one daughter, Maryanne White (Rick) of Portland, OR, 5 Grandchildren, and 2 Great Granddaughters. She is also survived by a stepson, Richard Matkin, and a stepdaughter, Lorie Betts, and 2 of her 3 sisters, Louise Monroe of San Antonio, TX, and Alice Moritz of Lubbock, TX. A Memorial Mass will be said at St. Madeleine Sophie Parish in Bellevue, WA on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. where she was an active member. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, NY, NY 10001, 866-AFA-8484 Arrangements entrusted to Sunset Hills Funeral Home, Bellevue, WA.
