BOARDMAN, OHIO – There will be services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church for Dorothy Elizabeth Jones Buck, 92, who passed away peacefully at her home Sunday evening.

Dorothy was born April 15, 1915 in Elida, OHIO a daughter of Evan H. and Hazel O. Ward Jones.

She graduated in 1937 from the University of Toledo Nursing School, and was affiliated with Cincinnati General Hospital. Wanting to serve her country during the war, she was appointed as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps.
She met her future husband, Captain M Dudley Buck at Chanute Field, Rantoul, Ill. in 1941. Dorothy was promoted to the rank of 1st lieutenant in 1942, and captain in early 1943. She continued in the nurses corps until her marriage to Captain Buck on July 26, 1943. Dorothy worked as a nurse until the birth of her first child in 1944 while her husband was serving in the European Theatre of Operations.

Dorothy and Dudley raised four children and her family and home were her pride and joy. She was very active in her church and her garden club. Dorothy took pride and delight in her magnificent rose garden.

Mrs. Buck is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, M Dudley Buck; her daughters, Dianne (Dr. Zeb) Weaver of Ashville, N.C. and Caye M. (Mario) Aiello of Westerville, Ohio; son, Atty. Marshall D. (Cathy) Buck of Canfield, Ohio; her brother, Col. Floyed Jones, Ret., of Tacoma, Wash; eight much loved grandchildren, Brian, Adam, Justin, Ryan, Allison, Kevin, Sean, and Brian; and a great-grandchild, Aliyah.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Evan H. Jones Jr. and Kenneth Jones, who both died in 1944 in service to their country; two sisters, Blanche Jones and Mary Reed; her other brother, Ralph Jones; and her daughter, Mariett B. Long.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown, OH 44509.


Arrangements are being handled by the Anstrom-Velker Funeral Home.
