My great uncle, Robert Tindale Wallace (called "Mick" by the family) served aboard the USS Arkansas 1942-October 1945 as a Fire Controlman 2nd Class. Would love to hear from anyone who knew him, or those who might know about the position of Fire Controlman. Also interested in obtaining any pictures from that time, esp. showing people; a dream come true would be a picture that shows my great uncle. The following is his obituary. Thanks! Julie Wallace

After receiving his discharge at the Great Lakes, Ill, separation center on Friday, following three and a half years in navy combat service, Robert Tindale Wallace, 30, son of Alfred J. The injured man was taken to St. Joseph's hospital in Mt. Clemens where he died about five hours later without regaining consciousness.

State police are seeking the driver of the automobile, which they believe struck Wallace. They asked that persons watch for a broken headlight as glass was found near the body.

The former sailor had recently returned to the States after service in the navy in the African, European, and Asiatic theaters. He was employed in the office of The Farm Produce Co. at Cass City when he entered the service in May, 1942, and had planned to enter again the employment of that company after his discharge.

Born in Elkland township on Aug. 19, 1915, he was graduated from the Cass City high school in 1933. When he received his discharge Friday, he held the rank of F.C. 2/c.

At the time he entered the service of his country, he was serving as worshipful master of Tyler Lodge, F. & A.M., at Cass City. While in the navy, he joined the First Presbyterian church here. Funeral services, conducted by....
