A funeral service for Edith D. Jobe, 88, of Granville, (Ohio) will be held at 10:30 a.m.Thursday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Bob Beyer and Minister Carol Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark, Ohio, where the Licking County Veteran's Alliance will provide military honors.
Mrs. Jobe was born in Akron, N.Y., to the late Timothy and Irene (Carpenter) Doctor. She died on Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio.
Edith was raised on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation and also in Spencerport, N.Y.
She served her country faithfully by serving in the United States Army during World War II. She graduated from Joliet Junior College; was a devout member of the Licking County Veteran's Alliance; Women's Army Corp 3; Ohio Order of Eastern Star; American Legion Post 85; prior Girl Scout Leader; she was the first female Granville school bus driver; was the Grand Marshall of the 2004 Granville Fourth of July Parade; and was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame on Nov. 6, 2003 by Gov. Bob Taft; and was an avid traveler, extensively covering all 50 states and all provinces in Canada.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Paul Hudnall of Newark (Ohio) and niece T. Jane Doctor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Jobe, whom she married on Feb 23, 1946, and who passed away Jan. 28, 2001; and one son David Jobe.
