Is my search even worth it?

I never knew my birth father, adopted by stepfather at age 8. I am now 60 both parents passed on. I want to find out if there is even a name on my original birth certificate. I am being told by the state of MN, that I have to have both parents sign off on the application, or get a court order from CA, where the adoption took place. These people are dead, how am I to get them to sign off. But the main question is, is it even worth the effort? How do I know if there is even a name on the one issued in 1951? There has to be an easier way. My ancestry tree is falling with no branches on my 'father' side.
