I was also born and adopted in Portland, OR (in 1969). Last year, I ordered my original birth certificate. I paid $25 and received it about six weeks later. It gave me my birth mom's name and her age when I was born. It also gave me my birth father's name. I located them both within minutes on the computer. Once you have a name and date of birth it is a lot easier locating someone! I made contact with my birth mom. I would highly recommend a third party when attempting contact...gives everyone involved a buffer! Good luck to you and your mom! It has been a great journey for me to learn my birth family's history and becoming very good friends with my birth mom.
