I WAS BORN IN WARWICK HOSPITAL QUEENSLAND ON 8/9/1943 AND HAVE SINCE BEEN TOLD I WAS ADOPTED AND COULD HAVE A TWIN SISTER.
MY PARENTS WERE LILIAN ROSE AND KENNETH LESLIE SMITH (BOTH DECEASED)
I BELIEVE ONE OF MY PARENTS WERE MY BLOOD PARENT BUT ONE
WAS NOT BUT IT IS POSSIBLE BOTH WERE NOT.

I WAS THE ELDEST OF 4 AND WAS NEVER TREATED THE SAME AS MY SISTER AND BROTHERS AND ALWAYS FELT THERE WAS SOMETHING NOT RIGHT. MY MOTHER WAS VERY HARD ON ME AND NOT WITH MY SISTER AND BROTHERS AND MANY THINGS HAVE BEEN SAID OVER THE YEARS THAT MADE IT CLEAR THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING NOT RIGHT. BEFORE MY AUNT ETHEL JOAN SMITH DIED (MARRIED NAME COOKE) SHE TOLD ME I HAD TWO MOTHERS BUT BECAUSE OF HER SPEECH OWING TO A STROKE WAS UNABLE TO TELL ME MORE.

THIS HAS HAUNTED ME FOR MANY YEARS AND I NEED TO FIND OUT SO I CAN PUT IT BEHIND ME AND STOP WONDERING BEFORE I GO CRACY.

I was adopted in Queensland 1962 - birth mother Elinor Harland (born 1920 in Brisbane, now deceased) and birth father unknown. Elinor worked for the Foreign Office and was posted to various locations around the world during her life. I believe it's possible she may have have given up a son up for adoption in the 1940s or 1950s, perhaps in Melbourne. I would love to hear from anyone that may have information about this. I am now in contact with members of the Harland family, but they had no idea about me before I made contact. I would dearly love to make contact with my brother... please help!

I found out recently that my biological father, John Alfred Howes, died in 2000. I have encounterd many frustrations and brick walls because I wasn't 'legally' adopted - my biological mother (Jeanette Haddon) gave me to my maternal grandmother (now deceased) to raise. My father's name is not listed on my birth certificate and the NSW Registry of BDM will not release my father's death certificate to me as I cannot prove that he was my father. I met my father for the first (and last) time on his 43rd birthday in 1988. I live in Melbourne and because of the distance, address changes by both, we lost contact. His birthdate is 28 September 1945. He has a brother Brian, a sister Annette (deceased) and his death notice was inserted by his aunt, Margaret Deabel. I was born in 1963, and he and my biological mother ended their relationship before I was born. He married Marcia Faye and, I believe, they had about eight children. At the time I met him (1988) he had remarried (she was approx 14 years younger) and they had a 18 month old child. Hello all,
This may not be part of the current problem but, I have found, I think, that my g.grandmother gave up her child to a Rooming House Keeper (known on the census as a Nurse Child).

That was in London in the 1861 census, Fanny having been born 2yrs. earlier in Brighton, Sussex.

Fanny, eventually, and maintaining her surname, married my g.grandfather. Their children were Percy & Mary, born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

QUESTION: Was this a form of adoption in the 1860's in England???

I have just joined the Ancestry site in search of my deceased father's birth relatives. My father (deceased in 1993 in Queensland)was born at Rose Park hospital in Adelaide on 17th December 1925 and was adopted out to my grandparents (deceased many years ago).I have a copy of my father's adoption papers which are from the Supreme Court of NSW and dated 9th May 1930 which is a bit of a mystery because I have photos of my father with my grandparents when he was a week old so I'm not sure why the formal adoption is dated five years later. The mother's name on the adoption record is Dora Ironmonger (mother's maiden name)and there is no father's name. His birth mother obviously named my father before the adoption as the name on the adoption record is Milton Edgar Ironmonger. His adoptive parents names ( my grandparents) are Howard Leslie DYER and Lucy May DYER of Railway Town, Broken Hill, NSW. The only other information I have is what my grandmother told me - that my father's birth mother was a young English girl who travelled out via ship from England with her mother to give birth to my father in Australia and then she returned to England. My grandmother also stated that she apparently stayed in Australia for a few months after the birth to find suitable adoptive parents who were 'good Christian people' . I have searched for a Dora Ironmonger in the English records and I can only find one born in the early 1900's in England but I can't be certain that it is the right one as I have no other information. Any further information would be greatly appreciated.

Hiya, my husbands mother adopted out what we think is 2 girls. Catherine was the first and she has actually been in contact with the family a fair few years ago but the other girl(?) is a mystery.
Her name is Geraldine Margaret Manser(neeTrebilco)
Previous marriages are and names are Lowe & Douglas.
She may have been Lowe at the stage of adoption.
I know Catherines birthday is June 10th as it the same day as Geraldines.

I am seeking my birth mother Rosemarie Maria Luise Fechner. These are the only details I have of her:

Born in Berlin, Germany
Arrived in Australia sometime in January 1966 (possibly resided in South Australia). She would be about 60 yrs of age.

At some stage she moved to Western Australia and gave birth to me at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Subiaco, Perth, on 20 August 1968. At that time she was registered as living at Flat 6, 32 McKenzie St, Safety Bay.

Named me Christian George Fechner.

Weeks later I was adopted and renamed Paul John Smedley.

Unfortunately our government won't reveal to me whether she remains in Australia or not (privacy issues apparently). I have checked as best I can with all states including a mailout to all Fechners listed in Australian telephone directories, but no luck to date.

If anyone has any information it would be much appreciated.

She moved to Brisbane just after my birth and worked in cafes etc. She married in 1961 and unfortunatley pased away from breast cancer in 1980.
