Looking for son, Gregory William Wood born March 18, 1961 Wellesley Hospital Toronto

I am trying to locate my son who was surrendered to adoption through Family Court in Toronto Ontario on April 18, 1961. He was adopted within the Toronto area in 1962.
I have no knowledge of his adoptive name . His birth name was Gregory William Wood ( my maiden name) He has been contacted by me through the Adoption Disclosure Registry to pass on medical information in 2001. Since that time I have more medical info to pass on but have no way to reach my son.My son has not registered with the ADR. This medical information is important to him and any children he
may have. He is said to be an accomplished person with a good education and a good job. His adoptive father came from Wales at the age of four. My son's last name is said to be "common" probably of Welsh extraction and his first name is unusual. He approached the CAS in 1985 to ask questions about his birth and I would wonder if that was the year he may have gotten married ?? We are almost exactly 20 years apart......he is 47 and I am 67.
This is an URGENT matter. Please contact me ASAP.Thank you.
Sharon Doerr

We don't know who adopted her or if she took their name. Her mom's name was Fernande Marie Laferriere and her father's name was Isaac Abraham Peters. We believe that she was born sometimes in November of 1943. If any one can help us find it would be appreciated. She has family who is eager to meet her.

Looking for Savink/Savage siblings (1930-40's) put in Ward of Childrens Aid Society-Toronto

My grandfather Donald Patrick Savage (Savink) was born to a Joe Savink (of Austria?) and Jessie Mac(Mc)Donald, (of Aberdeen, Scotland) He was born in 1933 and was given to the ward of Childrens Aid Society in Toronto Ontario with his sister and brothers, and was seperated from all of his siblings. He later met up for a couple of hours with them in ontario in 1955,but never kept in contact nor discussed the past! I am now searching for anything I can find on Jessie (from scotland, he thinks) and how she may have died, they were in Canada it appears when the children were born, they had 4 boys including one set of twins Paul & Eddy, Robert Joseph b. 1925, Donald b.1933 & Ronald 1934, anyone know anything about this particular family? It appears most of the kids originate now in Montreal of eastern Canada. I appreciate any help, not sure where to start! If you are one of these children please write soon, my grandfather would be so anxious to hear from you!

Hello all, I am looking for suggestions for how to go about searching for children who were sent out for adoption?

My great Grandmother sent her children out for adoption after her husband passed away(1896, Simcoe, Ontario). A couple left home on their own, my grand father being one of them before they could send him off.
I don't know what the process was back then but I geuss if you could you left and found a foster home.

A couple had been sent to the states which I can only imagine will make it even harder.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thank you

John Maloney

She was adopted to two American citizens, although my grandfather...my mom's adopted father, was in the Candian Air Force. She was born in Alberta I believe. And her biological last name is Wade. That's all I really know. I would love to see if there are any living members of my mother's birth family. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Query about Canadian adoptions and death informants

I have a death record for a child who died aged 1 and a half in Toronto Childrens Hospital of pneumonia and emphysema in 1914. The informant is given as a clerk at a city hall. Which seems a bit official for a natural causes death. While other death records I have seen for Canadians give parents etc as informants.

The hospital say I am not a close enough next of kin to be allowed information from her records which is very frustrating as the possible info in the records could knock down a huge brickwall for me.

Does anyone have any ideas why a clerk at city hall would be an informant. Would this occur if a child was abandoned or up for adoption?

Also does anyone know when official adoption started in Canada?

George

My grandfather's name was Arthur Clark. He was raised in a family of Reader's. On the 1911 census for Hants Co, Nova Scotia, he is listed as a boarder at 2yrs old living in the William & Mary Ann(Turlple) Reader household. There were two other boarders in this home. Georgennie?Gooduon? age 63 and Florence Virtue age 2. This has been a big mystery in our family for a very long time. Arthur Clark was married to Lena Dixon and had children before marrying Edith Bowie(my lineage) Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Searching for any family of Jewish male born in Montreal on or around November 3, 1953. It is believed to be a private adoption, the parents were young, and at least one (possibly the father) had Israeli citizenship and returned to Israel after the birth. The male adoptee was adopted by a middle aged Jewish couple with the last name Appel (in Montreal) about ten days after birth. He was fair-skinned, blue eyes, born with blond hair, but later turned to dark brown. If you have ANY information, please email arappel@eastlink.ca I'm not the adoptee, but I'm a close family member.

I'm trying to help some friends confirm whether or not their father was adopted. He was told by his parents that he was adopted but his children think that may have been a lie to cover up pre-marital "fun".

They have a birth certificate for their father showing the names of the parents who raised him. He was born in 1932 in London, Ontario.

Would there be an indication on the birth certificate if he was adopted? What steps should we take to find out the truth?

Thanks for any suggestions!!

Evans Ephren Drolet born/adopted ca 1921 Canada, died in Maine 2007

Found in the Maine Sunday Telegram, Portland, Maine 7 Oct 2007
Pls do not email me questions about this obit, I found it in the newspaper and posted it here as a random act of kindness.

TOPSHAM, Maine -- Evans Ephrem Drolet, 86, passed away after a brief illness at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine on Oct. 5, 2007. He was a resident of Topsham, Maine.
Evans was born in Canada on March 27, 1921, to parents unknown and was placed in an orphanage. At the age of two, he was adopted by Rose (Tremblay) Drolet and Thomas Drolet. Although Rose had initially chosen a blue-eyed, blond baby boy at the orphanage, the nuns at the orphanage told her this was not the baby for her and directed her to a crib where she found a quiet, green-eyed boy with a disposition of gold named Ephrem. She took him home, and he fell ill during his first night with her. The orphanage offered to accept him back, but the bond between Rose and her son, whom she named Evans, was already too strong to be broken. At about the age of five, Evans was smuggled into the United States under the skirt of his grandmother.
During World War II, Evans received invitations to fight for Canada and for the United States. He chose to enlist with the United States military and became a United States citizen when he was serving with the U.S. Army Air Force in India. When he returned from the war, he met Yvonne Brillant. The two married on April 17, 1947, and had three wonderful children during their marriage. Evans worked at the Varney Mill until it closed. He then worked at the Bates Manufacturing Mill until he retired at the age of 63.
Evans was predeceased by a sister, Margaret. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Drolet of Topsham, Maine; his sister Louise Covey of Medina, New York; his daughter Lucy Gower and her husband Donald of Durham, Maine; his daughter Nancy Drolet and her partner Lynn D'Agostino of Freeport, Maine; his son Romain Drolet of Marrero, Louisiana; his grandson Aaron Gower-Hall and his wife Kimberly of Sudbury, Massachusetts; his granddaughter Rose Everitt and her husband Will of Portland, Maine; and his grandson Jesse Drolet and his wife Chera of Mandeville, Louisiana.
One of Evans' greatest wishes was to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Last year, he realized this wish when he traveled to the nation's capitol in the company of his family.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Oct. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Demers-Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing St., Brunswick, Maine. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 39 Pleasant St., Brunswick, Maine. Burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Brunswick, Maine at a future date. Arrangements are by Demers-Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing St., Brunswick, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to:
Swinging Bridge Fund
Care of Mr. Roger Caouette
592 Foreside Rd.
Topsham, Maine 04086.
A bench will be installed near the Brunswick-Topsham Swinging Bridge in Evans' honor.
Finding birth parents with no name information?

The only information I have for my father in law is from the short form certificate which shows:

Roy Wallace Johnson
b. 12/15/23
Toronto
date of registration: 1/2/24

The registration number is 1924-05-001521

He did not even know that he was adopted until he had to get this form for the military (he served overseas in WWII). He thinks his birthname might be Wallace. He did not get along well with his parents--I'm not sure how hard he tried, but at any rate they have passed away and he got nothing from them. His adoptive mother's maiden name was Edna Smallwood. He believes she and her mother were from England and that Edna's mother was an RN at the hospital (he thinks Toronto General?). Thus, a suspicion that this was not an adoption thru an agency. Adoptive father was Lyle George Johnson.

I'm trying to help fill out the request for the long form certificate, but I'm unsure what to do without the birth name. He lives in California now, but has 2 sons still in Canada (1 is a teacher), which makes it easier to comply with the requirements. Also, he has developed some health problems that may have been hereditary--at what point can you get priority? Any information would be appreciated.

My ex-husband was born in London ON 04 October 1953 or 54. His birthmother was young and believed to be from the Leamington area. Also believed to have stayed in a home for unwed mothers in London during her pregnancy. He is almost positive that he was a twin and that the other child was female. They were adopted seperately.

He tried to locate birth family, with no success and now has serious health problems that may be at least in part from heredityand has given up trying. Our only child a dtr in her early 30's would like to get more info on her dads birthfamily and medical history. If this sounds at all familiar please contact me.

My birth name was Laurie Hayward born May 3 rd 1966. In Smith Falls. I'm looking for any info on my Birthmother or her family. They might have lived in the Smith Falls area and my adoption was finalized May 2nd 1968, Just before my 2nd Birthday. Birthmother with the last name of Hayward and she was 15 yrs old at the time. She had a slight speech impediment and liked to swim and sew. She was very unhappy with her family and that has led me to believe that she ran away from home. My Birthfather was 21 and a patient in the Ontario Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario for a brief period.I have searched the cencus records but have had no luck with that. Thank you..

I am currently trying to find my sister who was adopted in Manitoba . The adoption was finalized in 1958 or 1959. She was born at the Misericordia hospital in 1952 in Winnipeg . We were separated in 1954. Her adoptive parents were both in the army and I believe were stationed in Manitoba, perhaps Winnipeg. Adoptive father born in 1917, driver/mechanic in army .Adoptive mother an M.P in the army. They also have a biological son (Wayne)bd 1946. My sister now goes by the name of Donna Elizabeth . The family name is not known. She was born Dorothy Lynn Tymchuk. My sister lives in Winnipeg and is married with children. However, post adoption registry has had no luck with phone contact. It would be great if one of her children saw this posting.By the way,her adoptive parents are still alive. Your biological mother was a McCracken, but deceased in 1965. Your other brothers are waiting to meet you. Respectfully, Wayne G Tymchuk

Phillips/Smith - Uncle 'David' adopted 1950, Sarnia, Ontario

I am looking for my father's eldest brother, born Franklin Allan 'David' on January 18, 1942. His mother was Muriel 'Jean' Annabelle Smith (nee Phillips), his father was known as Wint Smith. It has also been said that 'David's' birth father was in the war and killed, so my grandmother married Wint instead of giving up the baby right away.

Details are sketchy from the family, as my father and the other siblings were very young (ages infant to 6yrs -1 girl and 2 boys). The rest of the family I think were going through enough with death of a family member, that they don't remember much either. My granmothers father passed away January 9, 1950 and it is said that 'David' was adopted out by the end of January.

My father passed away and never had any answers despite his search so I am hoping I can continue to find answers and put the pieces together.

Thanking you in advance for ANY information.

Tami Smith
British Columbia
Murphy, Barbara - birth name, Dec. 28/54, Hamilton

A woman born in 1927, presumably in Nova Scotia, married at age 15, had three children. When she was 20 her husband left. She was then not able to support her children as a domestic or housekeeper and they became wards of the Children's Aid Society in Nova Scotia.

This woman apparently plays guitar and piano by ear.

Around 1950 this woman started dating a young man. In 1954 she became pregnant. They did not marry. He had been in the armed services and had been a lumberjack. He knew of the pregnancy but made no contact with this woman. She came to Hamilton Ontario to stay with a relative during the pregnancy. She was unable to obtain a steady, permanent job and so felt it best to release her baby for adoption. This baby's given birth name was Barbara Joyce Murphy and was born on December 28, 1954 in Hamilton. It is uncertain whose surname she was given.

adoption info please!

Hi
I'm hoping someone on the list can help me. I have been doing research on my family tree and have found that it is possible that my grandfather was adopted - or just taken in by a family member. It seems that his father died when he was young and the children were placed with other families (poss. family members).
I can find no descendants of this line who either know or are willing to share info.
I found my grandfather's marriage registration - from ancestry.com and don't know if the names listed for his parents are really his parents or not. Does anyone out there know if names listed on a marr. registration would be the birth parents or would they be of the family who took him in. The birth and marriage took place in Ontario Canada.
If anyone can shed any light on the subject I would be happy to hear from you. Also can anyone offer any suggestions as to how to search for info.
Thanks ...... Dawn

Murphy, Nova Scotia, Hamilton, Ontario

I am helping a friend of mine in Hamilton try to locate her birth mother.

In 1927, in Nova Scotia, a woman was born. At age 15 (c1942), she got married and had three children--one boy and two girls. When she was 20 (c1947), her husband left her so she tried to support herself and the three children as a domestic. She was unable to support the family so the children all became wards of the Nova Scotia Children's Aid Society.

About 1950, this woman met a fellow and started dating him. In 1954 she became pregnant but there was no marriage forthcoming so she left for Hamilton, Ontario to stay with a relative during the pregnancy. Again, she tried to support her child but was unable to find steady work so had to give her up for adoption. The new baby's birthname was Barbara Joyce MURPHY and she was born 28 Dec 1954, probably at St. Joseph's Hospital. It is uncertain whose surname she was given--birthmother's married name, birthmother's maiden name, or birth father.

The birth mother was 5'2" tall, 115 pounds with straight brown hair, brown eyes, medium complexion and was musically inclined.

If any of this story sounds familiar to you, please contact me.

Susan Leitch
Saskatoon
