Searching for info on an EDNA, born in the summer of 1925 in a midwestern state

I am searching for info on my birthmother. The following info is from the non-identifing info and also whazt my adoptive mother told me. I do not have my birthmother last name. My adoptive mother told me that Evans was a family name.

My birthmother was born in the summer of 1925 in a midwestern state. Of Irish and Cherokee Indian decent. Her mother died when she was 5 yrs old and she went to live with her maternal grandmother. Her maternal grandmother was seperated from her maternal grandfather at the time. She was raised by her grandmother. Her father died when she was 11 yrs old.

Birthmother's mother was married before and my birthmother had 2 older brothers and 2 older sisters.

Birthmother only completed 7th or 8th grade. She did not like sports to much but did like to read and sew. She was living in Miami, Florida at the time of my birth. I was born in Nov 1945. She was working as a bar maid and said employer helped her and treated her good. Birthmother was seeing Noland M Ebanks, a merchant marine, who she said was my birth father. His name is on a birth certificate filing conformation from vital satistics. I have this. I was told that my birthmother's best friend was Glory Jean. I was supposed to be name after her but error by vital satistics - Gloria Jean Ebanks. Birthmother said she also had positions as elevator operator, babysitter, housekeeper and waitress. Could not get higher paying jobs because of education level. I thinks she lived in Miami from 1942 until 1947 after I was adopted. It was stated that she married shortly after she placed me for adoption (not to my birthfather). Also Non-ID info said she claimed she and her husband were moving back to her home state after my adoption. Apparently the marriage did not work out (if she indeed did get married). My adopted mother told me that by birthmother called her a few years after my adoption and asked her if she wanted oor could adopted my 1/2 brother. I do not have any other details to report.

Is this woman related to you? Does anyone know about her (related and not related)?

STILL SEARCHING FOR INFO ABOUT HER.

Gloria

My sibling by the name of Tammy and I are looking for each other according to the Children's Home Society of Jacksonville, Florida. They are slow in processing our records or want too much for the search. My name is Debra, born 6 Sept 1960 and Tammy was born in 1962 or early 1963. Our bio. mother was a McClure and I have found her, but she is sick and in a nursing home. I was advised, that if I wanted to visit that I would make a visit with her sister (my aunt) and we would just say I was a friend... for her health reasons. I am in contact with our Aunt. Please contact me by e-mail or ph: hwtobias@msn.com or cell: 1-706-871-3535

Birthmother worked as a bar maid, waitress, housekeeper, babysitter and elevator operator.
Birthmother was married shortly after she placed me for adoption (it appears from non-id info that she wanted to keep me but possible new husband did not want me or was not able to support her and me - she said that she could not ask him to support a child that was not his).
She returned to her home state after my adoption was final.
Her best girl friends name was Glory Jean and I was named after her. Vital satistics recorded it as Gloria Jean.

Does anyone know anything about this woman?

Still searching

Hi, I was born in Florida on the west coast Jan 11, 1970. My birth mother's name was Janine (might be spelled differently) and she would have been 17 or 18 at the time. She was from a small town in Illinois and had 2 younger sisters whose names were Becky and Barbie. I have run into a dead end and am looking for any help I can get. Anyone who might have any information for me would be greatly appreciated. I don't know her last name since the records were sealed or it would be much easier. I am greatly interested in making contact with her or any of my relative. Thank you

adoptee b. 1/21/63, Gainesville, FL [Alachua Co] ISO bMother

"My" Sandra Strickland [birth mother's name in file at maternity home] was about 20 yrs old in 1963. According to the family lore, she was engaged to be married to a young man [maybe 24 yrs old in '63] who was a 2nd yr law school student at the time, likely University of Florida. When his parents learned of the engagement and pregnancy, they threatened to cut him out of the family and stop his law school funding.

As a result, Sandra moved in to the home for unwed mothers in Gainesville, Florida, [presumably where he or they were enrolled in school at the University of Florida]. Sandra moved into the maternity home [known at that time as Hampton Hall] on September 15, 1962. [I am guessing that this date coincides closely with the start of the academic year.] She was in-residence for over 4 months prior to giving birth to a baby girl on Jan. 21, 1963. On February 2 or 6th, Sandra moved out of the maternity home. The baby was picked up by adoptive parents [who were actually supposed to adopt a different baby girl there] on Feb. 9.

The adoptive mother peeked into the social worker / secretary's file when the lady left to get the infant out of the nursery. Quickly scanning the top page [in fear of getting caught], the aMother memorized as much as she could: Natural Mother's Name was Sandra Strickland; she was from Indiana. aMother couldn't recall "the boy's name" but recalled the whole incident while watching the inauguration of Florida Governor Bob Graham. It was on the tip of her tongue, but she just couldn't recall it. [I'm thinking it was another politician's name that she had later seen on campaign signs, but I could be dead wrong.]

According to the paperwork that accompanied the infant, the birthmother's background info included the following: Height 5'5". Weight 110 lbs. Strawberry blonde hair, hazel eyes. Welsh-English-Indian. Presbyterian. 2 yrs college.

The birthfather's background was: Height 5' 9", Weight 145 or 165 lbs, [difficult to read; it was a carbon copy that had been corrected on the first page] fair complexion. Brown hair and eyes. German. Catholic. 2nd year law school student.

Infant's history: born Jan. 21, 1963 at Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. OB was Carl Herbert. [Note - he was also the "fertility specialist" that the aMom had been seeing]. Attending pediatrician was Marvin Kokomoor, who continued to be primary physician of most infants adopted through this particular maternity home until they were too old to see a pediatrician [died last year, I believe.] Also included with infant history is length, weight, other measurements at time of birth and again 2 weeks later, time of birth [6:xx a.m.], type and amount of formula and cereal fed while at maternity home.

Upon request in the late 1980s, Dr. Herbert sent a redacted copy of bMother's OB file to adoptee. Cannot locate the file now, but I do recall it stated that several of bM's parents and grandparents had college educations, perhaps were even educators themselves. bMother was described as "Nervous" in the file, also. Type B+ blood.

Adoptive father, who divorced the adoptive family, but who nonetheless opposed a search for many years, advised that he told the maternity home that he wanted to know "as little as possible" about the birth parents. However, during one of many arguments with adoptee, he advised that the bMother was unable to get along with the other girls and was thus kept isolated for her entire confinement at Hampton Hall. He also stated that bMother was NOT a college student from Indiana; she was a pregnant teenager from Georgia. [Perhaps aMother saw Indianola, Georgia, and mistook it for Indiana?] And he said bMother had big boobs like the adoptee.

Non-id was requested from the State of Florida in June, 2007. I was told in August and again in February that it had been reviewed, printed, re-written to remove identifying information, and about to be mailed. Shortly thereafter [both times], I was called back on the telephone and told first, that my file was lost and then, that they NEVER had my file. [Liar, liar pants on fire?]

Thank you for your time and your interest,
Lisa Kay

PS - The bMother's name was confirmed by a woman who worked in the local courthouse back when I was adopted. My aMama died in 2001, but you can bet I threw her the biggest kiss ever when her recall of bMom's name was confirmed last summer. [I miss my aMama more than anyone could ever imagine. She was the greatest. Gotta stop now, before I start full-blown bawling.]

PPS - Strickland was MAIDEN NAME as far as I know.

This broke my heart.

I did see, care for and love him while I was in the hospital and did not want to leave him - the saddest, hardest things I ever had to do plus giving him up for adoption. I have never forgotten him. (he was a handson baby).

I hope some one out there can help me find him.

Searching Mom

Evans family tree

I am searching for my birth mother. Her name was Edna and she was born in the summer of 1925 in a mid-western state.

I was told by my adoptive mother that Evans was a family name. She also told me that Edna's parents died when she was young. She was raised by her grandmother on a farm near a big city in Ohio, I think.

Edna was of Irish Cherokee Indian decent. Her great grandmother or great-great grandmother was full blood Cherokee Indian.

Edna lived in Miami, Florida 1944-1946 or 1947. I was born in Miami, Florida in Nov 1945. She was living common law with Noland M Ebanks (I have infomation on him).

I did request non-identifing information. According to this, Edna and Noland were never married.

Edna only had a 7th or 8th grade education and was employed in Florida as a cocktail waitress and elevator operator. She stated that Noland was a Merchant marine and was out to sea a lot. Her manager/friend at the bar held her a lot during her pregnancy with me.

Her best friend's name was Glory Jean (or Glorijean). I do not know were she knew Glory Jean from. I was supposed to be named after her but error made and Legal name is Gloria Jean Ebanks.

I was adopted in Miami, Florida through an agency.

Is this Edna related to any Evans families in the Mid- western states or in Ohio?

Still seaarching.

Gloria

I am searching for my birth son (given name was Robert Todd Johnson) who was born and adopted in Miami, Florida.

Born 7/21/70 in Jackson Memorial Hospital at approx 3:15 P.M. and weighing almost 10 lbs at birth.

I was forced to give up "Bobby" by my mother and this tore my heart out. I begged to keep him but NO DEAL. I did not have any way to support him on my own at that time.

I have never forgotten him and would love to be reunited with him. I have other children who would like to know him also. I would like to know if he is married and if I have any additional grandchildren.

Florida records are sealed making this search difficult.

Does anyone in Florida or elsewhere know this person?

Jacksonville Fl information

Does anyone out there know the names of hospitals, unwed mother homes, adoption agencies or anything else that you can think of that would have existed back in 1950? Also, would the newspaper have published the births in the newspaper if the baby was given up for adoption with the birth parents name? I'e been looking back at a lot of the messages on these boards and could have easily been one of the black market babies--why else would someone from Louisiana go all the way to Florida to adpt a baby when they could have just as easily gone to Dallas or for that fact there was probably an unwed mothers home in Louisiana. This whole mess gets crazier the deeper I try to dig. I can get nothing out of the state of Florida(the Florida adoption agencies have verified that what they have told me is the truth) because the adoption was finalized in Louisiana. I could probably get more info out of my cat than I'll ever get out of Louisiana--as every one well knows it's a very provincial state. The few people in my family that are my mother's age are all in nursing homes with alzheimers and the older cousins won't answer my letters or inquiries. I do believe that the information on my birth certificate is correct as far as the date and being born in Jacksonville because I can see no reason why my parents would have lied to me my entire life about those two facts.

Any help that anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

FLA 1967 Rural Leon Co. FEMALE ISO BIRTHFAMILY/UNCLES

White Female b. 07/25/67 (date could have been altered) The Birth Cert states b. in Leon County (Tallahassee area) and adoption was finalized Pensa in Spring 1968. It is possible the BM gave up her child voluntarily as it obvious from the social workers interview that the SWorker actually went to the BM's place of residence. Some of the non-identifying info which was provided was that the BM was 5'4", wore hair in short bob and it had been lightened (as was the style of the times). BM had gained a lot of weight from the pregnancy, was outgoing, and presented herself as someone who could be the life of a party-she also stated to the SW that she thought she had a big nose. BM had two brothers, both younger than her. The first brother (Uncle #1) was serving in the Armed Forces (maybe Viet Nam tour???). The other(Uncle #2) was in school and was a diabetic. The BM was not married, was employed, and was 21. The Birthgrandmother was on her second husband and from the other info I have, it sounds as though they lived either in a rural area or small town as there is a mention of the birthgrandmother taking a lot of pride in her home and having a garden and canning her own foods in 1967. Adoptee seeks any info available or contact if so desired. Replies to: Lisabohac@aol.com
FLA 1967 Rural LEON Co. Female ISO BM/Uncles

Female b.

Told by Catholic Services he had cerebral palsy. Later we find article in paper about woman who worked at Catholic Services throwing the same line to many young, unwed mothers, convincing them they would never be able to afford the medical expenses. This was the same woman who convinced my sister of signing away.

So to the web-based faith healer, the failed property developer, and the grouchy old biddy (hi, grandma!), baby girl P******, N Fl, 3/1965 owes you a huge THANK YOU for removing yourselves from my life early!

I didn't get the result I expected or wanted, but it is fabulously liberating to be done with that curiosity and ready to get on with the life I've created for myself!

looking for brother given up for adoption in Jacksonville, FL

I found out several years ago that I had an older brother. No one knows for sure whether or not my mother had the boy at a home for unwed mothers in Jacksonville, FL. I have a date of birth of 12/28/60. I also know that my mother was 17 when she had her. My mother was from Maine. She apparently hadn't been in FL for more than 4-5 months before giving birth. Her name was Sally J Crocker. I dont know if this is the name she used on the birth certificate. I realize that this is not much to go on. Unfortunately I dont know much more. I know she was first living with her sister who was 19 and worked at a local burger joint. She does not remember the name of the place. She was later placed with a couple who had a 12 y/o son who's mom dixie was in a wheelchair that is why my mother went to live with them. They were supposed to make sure she had doctor's appointments until my aunt was able to get her back to Virginia to stay with her until the baby arrived. She ran away from the home and my aunt did not hear from her again for 3 years. If this sounds familiar to anyone out there please let me know.
Victoria Hudson

My brother may not even know that he has family if he was adopted and wasn't told about his background.
