Surnames: Jackson, Plunkett, Johnson
The family story goes that my grandmother was adopted from an orphanage in Sioux City by a family named Jackson. The family seemed to know her birthdate of February 17, 1891. The story goes on to say that the orphanage from which she was adopted burned to the ground at some later date and so no further records can be found regarding her birth or birth family.
Does anyone know enough about orphanages in Sioux City to know whether this story could be true? My grandmother suspects that she was actually adopted from a family known to her adopted parents. So I think it's possible she didn't go through an orphanage at all. She thought her birth surname might have been Plunkett
