Doesn't Maine have NEW adoption laws???????

I thought I just heard that the state of Maine just recently changed it's adoption laws making it easier for adoptees/birthfamilies to find each other. Is this true?

I was telling my Great-aunt about my family research, and she was wondering about a son that she gave up for adoption many years ago. She thinks the last name of the couple who adopted him is Chase. He was born July 8, 1955 in Portland, Maine. She also told me that he was born at Maine General, but my research leads me to believe that it would've been Maine Medical. The doctor was Laughlin. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Her name is Beverly Cohen, and she's 82 years old, so she would love to find out whatever she can. Thank you.

I'm seeking more detailed info on my great Grandfather, Almond W Fleet, born in Maine, USA, 1866. I am new to the research process, but have plumbed the depths here. Census listings have him as "W" for "white," however I know for a fact that he was Native American. It is possible that he was adopted. He haled from Mount Desert Island, Maine and was probably either born there, or taken there from Massachusetts. If this rings a bell with anyone, I would so appreciate your repsonse. My grandmother Helen M. Desrochers was adopted sometime after her birth in 1903. (Adopted name, Pauline R.
Bailey.) She searched for her birth parents when she retired in the 1960's and thought she had found her birth mother, Lillian Mae DesRochers. Lillian's mother was Cora Gendreau. (There was an "x" on the spelling I received). Any information to verify what my grandmother thought she found would be appreciated. Cora's husband was Thomas DesRochers. Her mother was Sophia Mainfield and father Julius Gendreaux.

My mothers adopted name is Joanne Linda Merry. Her adopted parents names are Earl John Merry of Searsport Maine, and Hazel May Moulton Merry of Searsport Maine. jThey adopted my mother in approx 1947 when she was almost a year old. Joanne was born June 23, 1946. I haven't been able to get anyone in my family to come forward with much. I understand that the at-birth adoption was handled by an agency from Maine and the child went to Maine to live. I believe it was an "Open Adoption". Two different searches.....My father's birth Mother was Ruth Herbert --- I am searching for her or her family and also My Father's father who may not even know of the pregancy. The story goes that Ruth was due to marry my father's father who was an electrician aboard the hospital ship Relief when it suddleny was ordered to leave Casco Bay Maine in Feb of 1943 and she never saw him again. They kept Smith, his biological parents' name for his middle name. I believe my birthmother may have resided at St Andre Home during a portion of her pregnancy. My birthparents were not married. Bmom wanted to become a nurse, and Bdad was a musician. I am ISO name of Birthfather. My mother's name is Glennis Hamilton. I was born in Portland,Maine in June of 1966.

I have asked my Birthmother what my dad's name was but she would not say.

I am the oldest of 7. I have a brother named Steve and I think a sister named April. As far as I know,all except for Steve were adopted.

I really would like to find out his name.

I'm looking for my uncle he was born 9/49.
I think he was born in Castine, Maine. His father's name was Ralph H. Champlin (born Dec.25,1921) and his mother's name was Beryl Blanche (Wassmuth). My Grandfather attended Providence Bible Institute. while a student there he met Uncle Dwight's mom . They were maried at Bellrose,Long Island, NY on September 18,1948.
His mother died durring child birth. He went to live with his maternal grand parents Mr. and Mrs. George Wassmuth of Bellrose, NY.
They raise him for a short time then he was adopted . From what I've been told he was adopted by a cousin and her husband. My grandfather kept in touch until about the age of 5. My grandfather remarried and had three more children Stephen,Martha (my mom) and Daniel. Any information would be helpful thank you .
