Birth mothers in Michigan who are willing to write letters to legislators are sought. This is according to an e-mail I received from the Adoption News Service on 10/1/2008. The e-mail is too long to post here, but here is an excerpt:

"We are looking for birthparents who gave birth in Michigan and had their adoption of their baby finalized here, as well. ... WE need, in the next week or two, at the most (today is Tues., Sept. 30, '08) two letters snailmailed to the chair of the Senate Committee for Families and Children's Services and the Senate sponsor of this bill, # 0592."

I am 56 years old and would very much like to find my birth mother or to learn anything about her (if deceased). My adopted name: Carol Lynn Harbour, always called Lynn. I was born in Womens Hospital (no longer in existence) in Detroit, MI, 10/27/45. I was adopted through the Baptist Children's Home in Royal Oak, MI (but it no longer exists and I was told many years ago that any records were destroyed in a fire).

I was told that my mother's name was Shirley Dahlka, that she was only 17 when I was born and that her heart was broken by a young man who "ran away" from his responsibilities and joined the Navy in San Diego, CA at the end of the war. I was also told that she gave me a name, Lynn Saran Dahlka, but she never revealed the father's name.

There is a possibility that she grew up in the downriver area of Detroit and possibly that her father worked for Ford Motor Co, as did my adoptive father. I was also told that the family was cultured and that my mother was a dancer (ballet?) in high school.

Both of my dear parents are gone. I have looked for my mother for many years, but have never found her. It would mean a great deal to me to learn something about her.

I didnt learn that my paternal grandfather was adopted until everyone I could get information from was "gone." But I have been able to find out some bits and pieces if anyone could help me. I would love to find other "great grandchildren" or other relatives from my biology.
My grandpa was adopted from the GoodWill Farm in Houghton - surrendered by his parents: Ida Olson and Olaf Olson in 1931. This is how my paperwork reads:
Boy born November 17, 1927 in Hancock MI (my grandpa)name given at birth: Wallace Walter Olson (later changed by my great-grandparents)
Father's name: Olaf Olson, born Feb 24, 1906 In Hancock Michigan. Place of current residence (in 1931) Detroit, MI.
Mother's Name: Ida Olson born Sept, 14, 1909 in Calumet, MI and current residence at that time was Houghton, MI

My grandpa was a very quiet man, and didnt talk about much except that he didnt get along too well with his adopted parents and that in young adulthood or late teens he often liked to go by the name "Wally". I am trying to assist my good friend, Sue, in finding her birth family. Here's what we know:

Sue was born in Flint, Michigan on Leap Day, February 29th, 1968. We believe that she had at least one sibling, a brother, born to the same mother (uncertain if the same father). Sue's adoption was closed, so the records she's been able to obtain have no information on her birth parents. Sue is tall (abt. 5'7), with medium-red, curly hair and fair, freckled skin, indicating a likely western European heritage, probably Irish or Scotch.

That's all the info we currently have. We're hoping that Sue's unusual birth date might be the key to making a family connection. If you have any information or can be of any assistance, please respond to this post. I'll keep my email address current.

I am nearly 80 years old and for many years I have been lookinng for my sister Patrcia Margaret Patten. We were given away by our parents when I was 2 yrs old and she was 1.
I have discovered that in 1930 we were boarder children with Fred H Schultze and his wife Annie.
I am supplying the following information on the possibility someone may know the daughters of Fred and Annie who might remember what happened to my sister when she left their home.
She is said to have been adopted by a doctor.

This is the information we know. Her birth name was Leah Rose Tonan (Tonan?) and she was born on March 29, 1972 at St. Johns Hospital in Harpers Woods/Detroit Michigan.
My parents were also told that her birth mother was 22 years old (born circa 1950) and from an immigrant Italian Catholic family. Her birth father was from Greece.

If you have any information on the Tonon family from the Detroit area please let us know. Do to their relatively recent immigration it's hard to find anything at all.
