Missouri adoption-1896 male

Surnames: Holton, Benson
My grandfather was born in April 1896 and adopted by Alfred and Matilda Holton (St. Louis) One of the birth parents may have been named Benson. I have been unable to locate birth certificate under the names of Holton or Benson.

Any information would be appreciated.
