How do I begin searching for birthmother in a closed adoption?

I am searching for my father who was born in February 60+ years ago in a small town in Montana and was placed in a catholic orphanage where he was adopted by a family from Columbia Falls, Montana. How would I go about searching for information leading to finding the birthparents? The orphange does not exist anymore neither is the lawyer or priest who helped with the adoption. Any info on how to get started with all this would be great.
My father honestly is not that interested, but I would love to know family/medical history on his side.
