Marie Coyle - Adoptee

I'm doing research for my step-Aunt on her mother's family. Recently (within the last 5 years) her mother learned that she had been adopted while trying to get a copy of her own birth cert to obtain a passport.

Since then we have learned:
Birth name: Marie Coyle
" date: January 1931
" place: Bethlehem, PA
Birth mother: Ellen Coyle
Birth father: Warren Kemmeron
Baptism: St Bernard, Easton, PA, by Rev Joseph B Muldron

Adopted father: James Prior
Adopted mother: [--?--] O'Brien
Lived in: Philadelphia, PA

I found an Ellen J Coyle in the 1930 US Census:
1930 Philadelphia, PA, Girard College
Coyle Ellen J - F - W - 18 - S - _ - na - Yes - N Ire - N Ire - N Ire - English - ?0 - 03 - v - 1929 - AL - Yes - Waitress - College - 619V - w - Yes

Image Source: Year: 1930; Census Place: Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Roll: T626_2142; Page: 17B; Enumeration District: 819; Image: 0666.

As for a birth father, I found 2 Warren Kemmerers (only 4 Kemmerons in the whole US - no Warrens) in the 1930 US Census living in Bethlehem, PA. 1 is listed as head of house & in his 40s, the other is 18 and listed as son (but not of the above Warren). This is as close as I've been able to come.

Any info would be appreciated! It would be wonderful to find "Marie's" siblings if there are any or info on her grandparents.

Thank you & Happy Hunting!

Stephanie Wright
Bucks County, PA

Ashcraft / Ashcroft, Bullock, Canby, Cassidy, Flynn, Goldstone, Hartnett, Hanf / Hauf, Kelty, Kettlewell, Kilgallon, Macknet, Makela, Marshall, McCarthy, Nori, Stucke, Sweeny, Thorn(e), Wambold, Wampole, Weikel, Wetherill, Wisham, Wright.

Adoption in 1941

My mother was adopted in 1941 in Philadelphia. The surname of her mother was Gallagher. I'm searching for her family.
Unfortunately, I do not have any more info at this time. She was born at St. Joseph's hospital.
I believe that her mother was unmarried at the time, and she married the father shortly after the adoption took place. I think Gallagher is the mother's maiden name, but not sure.
There are more children after the marriage.

Can anyone help?
Thanks

my name is melanie viselli. i am looking for any possible info for my aunt...josephine viselli. she was born sometime in the 1940's. she was adopted while still very young in PA. the family that adopted her had the surname de fazio. i don't know much about her family at all. currently she lives in florida with my uncle (her husband lenny, my dad's brother). she suffers from deminsia, so there are somethings that it's becoming harder for her to recall of course. she's such a nice person...and i would like to know more about where she came from...
at least where to start looking. i realize i don't have a lot of info...but other than the first names of her adopted parents, i don't know too much else.
thanx to anyone who tries.
BABY GIRL 5-8-1968 PENNSYLVANIA

I am a girl who was born in Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, on May
8, 1968 at 9:46 p.m. I weighed 7 pounds 5 ozs. and was born at 39 weeks
gestation. I was born with a large hemigioma on my forehead, which is a red
birthmark. It appears from other bills that my birthmother was treated at
Pennsylvania Hospital prior to the delivery. My birthmother was 19 (Born in
either May or September of 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) and
unmarried. Her first name begins with a "B." She was five feet tall and
approximately 98 pounds with blonde hair, green eyes and a fair complexion.
She was of Irish Italian descent and was Catholic. She is a high school
graduate and was employed as a secretary. My birthfather was 21 years old,
five feet ten and approximately 160 pounds, Catholic, Irish Italian descent,
red blonde hair, brown eyes, High School graduate and employed as a
salesman. He was not listed on the adoption petition. I was discharged
from the hospital on May 13, 1968. The hospital bill lists me as New Born
#13044, and the bill was approximately $700.00 (partially paid by medicare).
My maternal biological grandfather was employed as a police officer. The
adoption was private, handled by Raymond and Estelle Rubens. I also have
reason to believe that Spence and Chapin were involved somehow. Estelle
Rubens handed me over to my adoptive mother on a street in Philadelphia on
May 13, 1968. I was taken to New York. The adoption was finalized in
Delaware County, Pennsylvania by the Honorable Judge Leroy Van Roden of the
Delaware County Orphan's Court. The only request my birthmother made was
that I be placed in a Catholic Home. I am seeking to find either
birthparents, possible siblings, any blood relatives. My adoptive parents
names are Mario F. DeSimone and Patricia B. Demasi DeSimone. Please contact
me at MTDESQ@aol.com.

I am hoping there is some kind soul out there who can help me. I am doing genealogy research for a close friend (my husband's best friend for years and years). His father was born William JENKINS in 1921 and was adopted by Milton and Rose Dallin that same year and renamed Robert Milton Dallin. From what my friend knows, there were other Jenkins siblings, the Jenkins were married and that William/Robert was the only one given up for adoption. William/Robert died in 1988, and his natural sister, Ruth, attended his funeral.

Does anyone out there know what will happen if we request a copy of William/Robert's original birth certificate? Would that be sealed?

Born 10/06/69
FARRELL, PA

Born: BABY BOY LEWIS
Premature

Mother listed on birth certificate....I will provide this information if neeeded.

No father listed.

We have contacted birth mother. She does not show any interest in getting to know my husband, which is fine. We are interested in the father, circumstances of the adoption and a possible medical history. Through hours of research at the Sharon Library and digging through old obits, I was able to locate several obits for HER family to piece together a little bit of a medical history.

IF anything sounds familiar, please contact us at ohfrickimamick@yahoo.com

Have tried to find information about this agency and have not had much luck!!

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Krista

Information on getting OLD adoption records in PA

My mother, Martha Viola Henninger was born on Feb 22, 1917 in PA. The state tells me if I can get the judge in the county she was born in to release the birth certificate, I can have it.

I wrote to the judge in the county were we assumed she was born, and they came back and said they had no records for her. Originally when I spoke to someone at Vital Records in PA, they told me if that judge didn't have the records, they could at least tell me in which county she was born, so I could then write to the judge in that county.

So, I did call back to Vital Records to ask for the county of birth, and was flatly told they do not give out that information.

Talk about catch-22. I don't know where she was born, but I have to get permission from the judge in this hypothetical county to get the records opened.

Mt mother is gone, I am quite sure her mother is gone. I am trying to figure out who this would hurt.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

I need some help as I have hit a complete brick wall.

I have been searching for Gale/Gayle for some time now, apparently he was raised in an orphanage in Pennsylvania and served in the US army in the UK in 1944.

He was a coal miner prior to enlisting into the army which would have possibly been prior to WW2. His name has been spelt differently, he may have served in the 82nd airborne division, not 100% sure.

This is all the information I have, and would appreciate any help please.

Regards

Janice

F b 3/2 -3/7 1960 d. 6/20 1999 I am her daughter looking for her parents and my father's family

My mother was adopted by a nurse named Mary A Mitchell in Confluence PA in March 1960. She was premature. The nurse saved my mother's life, became her mother, and my grandma. I don't believe my mother was born in a hospital or that this was a "legal" adoption. My mother died looking for her birth parents, I am looking for anything on my mother or father. My mother's birth mother's name is Shirley, and birth father's name is "Red". I don't know if these are real names or not, but I believe they are. I have no last names. My mother is said to have 5 or 6 living siblings from this man and woman.

MY father's name is Frank Warren Bush Jr. He passed away in December 26th, 1996. I am looking for any family related to him. I am his only daughter as far as I know. I have a brother named Jeremiah, whom I believe I have found via Myspace. We haven't so much as sent a 4 sentence email to each other though. I know my father had several siblings, a total of 5. I am looking for those siblings which are interested in regular contact. His siblings names are Dawn, in SC, (but I don't know where in SC) Alisha last known address in WA (again don't know where), Dody in PA (not interested in keeping contact), Dave (unknown) and someone else. I know that my father's father died after my father died. I know that my "biological" grandmother is not interested in contact even though she is very much alive and well.

Lula Ida Hershery & John E (Casey)Jones had four children. With the oldest being the daughter and then three sons. All four children were placed in the Childrens Society of Chambersburg, PA possible in the early 1930's The fourth son we were told was named Glenn Jones (but not positive). We have no date of birth for this fourth child and third son. The story we have heard is this fourth child was adopted by a Philadelphia, PA family but we have no name or date of adoption. This fourth child then went into the Navy per the story provide by the daughters husband. The daughter's husband had been researching the family genealogy trying to locate her youngest brother Glenn Jones (original name at birth). Unfortunely he passed away a few years ago and the information left behind is not complete.
We have gathered the information left behind and continuing the search.
We are looking for this borther/Uncle or his adopted family. Since the oldest sibling is 80 and the other two brothers are 78 & 77. We have a large extended family and looking for the missing brother/Uncle. Per PA files this fourth child is still alive and the adoption was legal & will not release any information. Any assistance in finding this lost sibling will be greatly appreciated.

If this sounds familiar to anyone, please let me know.

There was a man with the surname of Morgan who live in Eastern, PA. (Family stories seem to indicate coal country... this could be wrong.)

His wife died and he was an alcoholic. There were some (more than 2) children. The Catholic Church (?)stepped in and rehomed the children.

Charles (my grandfather) was adopted to a family (Evans) in Berks County but would NOT go unless his sister Mary (?) was taken with him. (Or it could have been the other way around.)

The other children were adopted by families in more the Pittsburgh area.

I'm looking for the names of the alcoholic Morgan and his late wife and any information that you may have that pertains to them. (Or what happened to the other children from that union!)

Thanks for reading!

I am trying to help a friend who is in a nursing home find her daughter. She was 15 had a baby and was forced by family to give her child up. She would really like to have a chance to see this child. This baby was a pretty girl with lots of hair. She was born on Dec 26 1940 at the New Brighton hospital Beaver valley Pa. She only was able to nurse her baby once before she was taken away. The baby was adopted by a woman whose last name was Hamilton. My friend would really like to be in contact with her daughter or any grandchildren.

looking for info on Dorothy Seymour/Campbell

my Mom was given up for adoption right after her birth (apr 18, 43). she was born in phila. or wilmington delaware. Her mother's name was supposedly either Dorothy Seymour or Dorothy Campbell. Unfortunately all of my family has passed away..including my mother so all i have to go on is what i remember hearing as a child. My mom wanted to find her birth mother so bad but didn't get the chance. I would love to find her as much for my mom as for myself. Her adoptive parents were Jim & Catherine Wagner(coyle) of Philadelphia. I remember hearing that they paid the birth mother $100.00 to adopt my mom. Weren't they required to file paperwork for adoptions back then? It's just so frustrating to think I may never find out who she was. If anyone has any ideas about where i can start searching please let me know. thank you!

Abner HORNBERGER Adoption

I am researching my family line. They were from Snyder Co, PA. I have recently received information that my gr gr gr grandfather was adopted by the Hornberger family. I have been told that his last name was Dowell, and that on the way here from England, his mother died and his father let the Hornberger family adopt him. His name was Abner Hornberger, he was born 1-3-1801and died 4-13-1880. He was married to Lydia Gelnett, daughter of Casper Gelnett and Catherine Crumbaugh. I would appreciate any information someone could give me on this because I have no idea as to find out if this story is true or not. Thank You, Peggie Hornberger

I am assisting a friend who did not know she was adopted until she was 37 and only after both of her adoptive parents had died. She knows that her mother's name was Joyce Siclari or Joyce Pisano. My friend was born in 1948 in Pennsylvania. The adoption was arranged through the Catholic Church and took place in Richmond County, New York. My friend would love to find information about her birth parents and if she has any siblings.

I have already given her current information on the Catholic Agency we believe arrange for the adoption and have shown her how to use on line white pages. She has the adoption papers.

Any info or suggestions would be appreciated. I have never done a search for an adopted person before.
I'm trying tof ind my half-brother. My mother had a baby in July 1972 in Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster PA. Her maiden name was Keller and she was single at the time. I believe he was born within the first 10 days of July and he was born biracial (half black, half white), plus he was given up at birth, because of her circumstances at home. I have no other info than that. I'm also looking for the adoption agency he was adopted through.
