John Middleton Greenville, South Carolina,

John was my 6th great grandfather

I have seen many websites and had many emails from people saying John Middleton Maury County Tn, Was the son of Richard IV Middleton. Babados line of Middletons

But how could this be? DAR Records state that Richard IV Middleton did have a son named John, but he died in Chesterfield Dist. SC 1800.

John Middleton of Maury county Tn, was in Greensville County Sc, in 1800.and in Maury County by 1820.

There is a book by Marise Parrish Lightfoot called Let the Drums Roll: Veterans and Patriots of the Revolutionary War who Settled in Maury County, Tennessee. In her book she writes.

John Middleton, Senior, b. between 1750 & 1760, Ireland and migrated to South Carolina before the
Revolutionary War. He received payment for militia duty in South Carolina during the years 1779 and

1782. He executed his will on April 17, 1831, and died between that date and June 23, 1831, when the will

was probated in Maury County, Tennessee. In his will he named his wife, Rebecca and two sons, Alfred and Drury.

Also I have found more false information. There is a old family story about John being in Lee's legion in the Revolutionary War.

I went to DAR with this and found out this not to be true, There was a John Middleton in lee's but he died way before our John Middleton did in Sc.

So who was John Middleton 1760- 1831 Maury County Tn,
If you have any new Information to share please Email me at

willun98@yahoo.com

Erik Middleton
Joseph Wallace born abt. 1860 in Charleston, S.C. On marriage certificate to Annie Dolan in Canada cites parents as Edward and Hannah. Family seems to think he had a sister Jenny. I can't find any info or any connection in S.C. He claimed to have been adopted at about 9 years old-
I have no idea if Edward and Hannah were his natural or adoptive parents. He was also a Scot and a Presbyterian.

SC Born And Adopted, Found Birth Parents, Some Legal Info

I had no idea this category existed until today. Normally, I'm researching surnames and places, but stumbled upon this and thought I'd offer my story.

When I first got the internet in 2000 for our son, I got hooked on genealogy. Always knew I was adopted (1963 Carolina Children's Home), but had the best parents in the world and had no desire to find my birth parents. I was always curious, but not THAT curious. When the genealogy bug hit me, I decided to search online for adoption websites. I finally found a registry online and 2 hours later, after a little sleuthing, I was talking to my birth mother on the phone. She had registered on that website and had been looking for me for 2 years.

Since then, we have met and have a wonderful relationship. She "named" my birth father and I have met him as well. However, that's not a happy story. He denies being my birth father, which is ok, I can only imagine how he feels. However, he has been wonderful to me and my family, but not to my birth mother. This leads me to the legal info part.

I had the notion a few months ago to have my original birth certificate unsealed (lucky me to be born in '63 when they started sealing them!). I knew this would mean hiring a lawyer, so I did and asked my birth mother to come down from Greenville to meet with him. He told us that in order to have the birth certificate unsealed, we would have to get my birth father involved if his name was mentioned on the birth certificate. If we had no way of contacting him, then the lawyer would have to literally find him and ask his permission. While my birth mother thinks she didn't name him on the certificate, it would be a real snag in our effort if he was. The lawyer would also have to travel to Greenville to the courthouse to have legal documents drawn and obtain the certificate info and that may take a couple of trips. He is not allowed to view the actual certificate, I will NEVER see a copy of it and neither will my birth mother. The only thing we are allowed to know, which is only read by a judge or clerk of court and conveyed under witnesses to the lawyer (sounds like some super secret society thing), is the information mentioned on the birth certificate. The lawyer actually said that it pretty much takes an act of Congress to get a birth certificate unsealed in South Carolina. Know what? I believe him.

I thought this info might be useful to those who are thinking of getting a certificate unsealed. I haven't pursued my effort in a while. When I decide to move forward and gather more information, I'll certainly relay that information to you.

Sincerely,
Dana Risinger
West Columbia, SC
Andrew Jackson Davis was supposed to have been injured during WW-I and subquently died in Atlanta hospital. Left wife and at least three children as follows: Essie M. Davis, Elsie E. Davis and Andrew Jackson Davis. These children were placed for adoption around 1923 and we only know of whereabouts of youngest, Andrew Jackson who is deceased. No information on the sisters but request any knowledge of them having been adopted and if they are still alive under an adopted/married name.

It's been a while since I've heard from any member of my birth family. If you are still out there please e-mail me. I need to know if we can ever meet face to face or just chat via e-mail. I last spoke to Gerald Euland back in 2004 and Jesse Jr & family around the same time. We need to get to know each other before it is too late and we don't get the chance to. I would also like to know the names of our other brothers and sister, nieces, nephews, etc.

[Found obituary for mother, 2002, buried Stephens Memorial Gardens - Stephens Co.GA.; father, 1981; and step-father, 1991] Adopted second time by step-father, Mr. Kelly. Actual physical address. Adoptive mother's siblings live within 15 miles of my home, and I attended school with aunt! Aunt rejects communication which leads me to believe the first adoption is unknown to subject. I will not persue this futher. Maybe someday she will see or hear of this and choose to make contact. Her communication is welcome.

I am looking for information that can lead me to the records of my grandmother's adoption that took place sometime around 1888. She was born October 1883 and was 5 years old when she was adopted by an delin Smoak(sp? Smoke). This was the second wife of Adam Smoke(Smoak) of Orangeburg SC. I invite any information. I live in Minnesota so I cannot get to the county court house to research this information.

Seeking birth mother - Grrenville, 1952

Seeking birth mother.

I was born April 3, 1952 in St. Francis Hospital, Greenville, SC and given up for adoption. A few years ago I contacted Catholic Charities for SC and was given some information. My notes are buried in the back basement and the following is what I can recall.

BM turned 18 in March, 1952. Her father worked for a taxi company and her brother (he was younger than her) worked in a grocery store, Her mother died some time in the 1940's. Her family was Baptist.

Birth father was in the military, I believe in the Air Force. He was reposted before she discovered that she was pregnant.

So if any of the above rings a bell, please contact me.

Joe B near Columbia.

From Spartanburg, SC. I was adopted along with a brother in the early 60's. I located my father, his last name being Thornton. He passed away last year. I was told by him that my mother is still alive and was from Cowpens. I believe she still has family living there. Thought she might live in Texas now. My real mother would remember the family that adopted me. They were Smith's.

We are searching for the BM and 2 1/2 siblings of a male born in Gastonia, NC. I was born at Gaston Memorial Hospital and adopted through the Gaston County Dept of Social Services. I know that I have a brother born in 01/62 but know idea where. He stayed with his father when BM and he divorced. I know that she had a girl in 11/70 and she had blonde hair and blue eyes. She was born with "orthopedic needs" and the BM was cited for neglect of these needs in the early 70's. I know that she lived with her sister and brother-in-law while waiting for me to be born. We feel that she has ties to Gastonia even now but cannot rule out that she might live in South Carolina since Gastonia is almost on the state line. Also we cannot find the birth certificate of girl in Gastonia and feel maybe she was born in SC. Anyone having any info please contact. Like everyone else looking, I am very frustrated.

Looking for my daughter - born October 13, 1970 In Anderson Memorial Hospital. Was placed with Social Services Agency and known as "Baby Sue"
I was told she was born dead, to find out 25 years later that she had been adopted. She was adopted by a couple in which the father was in the military. At the time of adoption, he was 34 years old. The couple also had another adopted daughter who was age 7 and a natural son age 5. The mother was 31 years old. The adoptive family were Methodist. They lived in the lower part of South Carolina? All this information I was able to obtain through the Social Services Agency on my own.
I have been actively trying to have adoption records opened since 2002 through a lawyer. The courts are excessively slow.
Before that, I tried private investigators, and Worldwide Tracers. All to no avail.
Daughter, if you happen to read this, please know that I am anxious to meet you. Please respond.
I was born at Anderson Memorial Hospital, in Anderson, South Carolina on August 3, 1983.(9:37am) I was told my mother could have been around 36 years of age, but not completely sure. I have tried everything, and almost feel like giving up. The adoption was run by a man in New York, but my birth parents were gone by then. I don't think they have any idea where I went after the hospital. Please!! If you have ANY info at all, please let me know. Thanks!

I am wondering if there are any records on the internet or any place of a List of Children that might have been Adopted in the early 1800's in So. Carolina. I have been hunting anything on my GG Grandfather's Parents Names. His name is Leroy H. Hodges, according to the census born in 1806 in SC., he was in Laurens Co., SC in 1830, in Abbeville Co., the Old 96th Dist. in the 1840's and then moved on to Jefferson Co., Alabama by the 1850's. We can not find anything not even a clue of any names. Thanks for any thing.
Peggy

I am searching for my sister and my most recent lead has indicated somewhere in SC. As stated above, she was born Sept. 9, 1954. Her birthplace was Southport, NC and I believe she was the only girl born there that day. Her birthname was Deborah Louise Smith. She might have had some contact as an adult with a woman, last name Willoughby, who cared for her when she was a baby but is now dead. I would love to meet her but most of all, I just want to know that she is safe and well. Our brother died in 2000. If you or anyone you know fits this profile, you can email me direct at nwishon@triad.rr.com . Thanks for any help.

According to census records, his parents were also born in SC. He died 1907 in Hall County, GA. He also lived in Lumpkin County GA and was married in Habersham County GA. His first wife was Catherine HIGGINS and they were married in Habersham County GA.
His second wife was Tennessee Jane WOODY.

There is a Levi ELROD who was from Anderson SC who died 1840-1844. He is said to have killed a man in a fight in SC and escaped to Hall County GA. I don't know if there is a connection with my Peter ELROD, but Peter did live in Hall County and he did name a son Levi.

Any help on this line would be greatly appreciated
