A young mother named MARY CARTER, Norflok, VA.gave birth to a daughter around 1965-66. Her daughter was told her father is ORLO MAGOON. Orlo was never told that he had a daughter. On March 25th, 2003 a message was posted looking for father. Jan. 11th 2008 Orlo Magoon seen this shocking news for the first time. So much time has lapsed the link or e-mail or what ever you call it, no longer exsits. The daughters name or exact birth date was not given. The message was sent from a Nancy Hensey, at the time the e-mail address was nancyphensley@sbcglobal.net. Nancy HENSLEY was helping the daughter (search for dad). My great-grandmother was Joanna Blanche Long, born October 16, 1865 in Richmond, Virginia. Her mother was Joanna Kennedy, who lived in South Hadley MA before 1865 and who returned to South Hadley not long after 1865. The father of Johanna Blanche Long was John Long according to one record but was Timothy Long according to her 1897 marriage record.

However, the state of Virginia has reported to me that they do not have a record of the birth of Johanna B. Long for the years 1853-1866. I can find no record at Ancestry.com of a John Long or a Timothy Long who match.

By about 1867, Johanna Kennedy and her daughter Johanna Blanche Long had returned to South Hadley. There is no record of a John Long or a Timothy Long living with them there. These facts in combination make me wonder if Johanna Blanche Long was an illegitimate child. According to my theory, Johanna Kennedy became pregnant in Massachusetts in 1865 and went to Virginia, where she gave birth to a child that was named Johanna Long. Two years later, mother and daughter returned to Massachusetts.

If Joanna was not illegitimate, I would like to find a record of her birth. If no record exists, how strong an indicator of illegitimacy is that? If she was illegitimate, is there any way to try to find a record of that? I will appreciate advice.

Seeking birth family information for genealogical and family health history purposes!! James William Jennings was born in Carroll County, VA, on 9 Dec 1923. He was adopted at birth. He was married to Abert Delp in 1940. He died at Mt. Airy Hospital in NC on 6 April 1941 of spinal meningitis.

JWJ's only child, a little baby when he died, his daughter Elizabeth, had talked about seeking to open her records for these purposes; however, having hesitated for years (not wanting to "upset anyone" by dredging up the past), she passed away unexpectedly before she could strive to open her records. She said she had been given hints once as to whom her birth family was, but never knew the veracity of the information and only hinted at the information herself.

Now JWJ's only grandchild, a grandson, wishes to find his genetic connections. Anyone happen to have knowledge of this information? Much time has passed and those involved are probably mostly gone, too. If you have information which might help, please respond.

By the way, Billy's grandson resembles his grandfather.

This is a LOOONG shot to post this, but here it goes -- I'm posting the inquiry. Again, our purpose is primarily to locate genealogical history and secondarily any potential family health concerns. (The purpose is not to locate any inheritance or to upset anyone by dredging up the past.) We are genealogy buffs and would very much like to know the biological roots of this lineage.

I have been looking for my half sister for several years now
her name was Sharon Lee Hines before she was adopted by her mothers new husband in the late 60's about 1968 in The state of Virginia My father allow this to happen since he just didnt have the funds to fight the adoption and get custy of her.
How in the world can I find her before we both get too old.
I know her Mother name was Patricia Jean, but havent found out her maided name. My father name is Robert Lee Hines
Im figure she was about 10 to 15 years old when this happen. cause she was born in the early to mid 1950's cause she is older then me. If you can help would be great or how I can some how get more information about this, This adoption I believe was done through Dept of Social service, because I have the letter from them they send to my father, who is deceased since 1977. and my mother is also deceased.

I am looking for information on a very old adoption record. A woman by the name of Lula Carpenter signed the adoption record for a Bryan Clyde Carpenter in 1917. He is my grandfather and was adopted by Henry H Amos and Annie Putney Amos in Cumberland Va. This family adopted many children. I don't know if Carpenter is Lula's maiden name or married name or what. If anyone can help or would like to try I would appreciate any help offered because I haven't gotten anywhere with it. The only thing I do know is that there weren't many woman in the Virginia census by that name but the ones' that were listed were all over Virginia . I hope someone can help with this mystery. Margret Hollis Mackenzie is my birth mother and I have been searching for her for almost 16 years now.

She was 18 in 1968 when I was born.

She stayed in the Seton House Maternity Home in Richmond, VA until shortly after having delivered me. I was born May 24, 1968 at Richmond Memorial Hospital, Richmond, VA. She also had me baptized Lisa Marie Mackenzie on May 29, 1968.

After that she returned to Ohio where she surrendered me to the Catholic Charities Adoption Agency in Canton, Ohio.

Non-ID on my birth mother:

18 at time of birth and placement. 5' 71/2", 145 lbs., blue eyse, brown hair, fair complexion.

Interests:
Working with children, cooking and running a house, law, computers.
Talents:
Singing (choir), piano, knitting, cooking, cleaning house
Hobbies: Swimming, reading, knitting, crocheting, baby sitting and cooking.

She was employed as a Secretary.

I do have some medical information about her but am keeping that back for identification purposes.

I do have some information on one of the two potential fathers and I believe I know which one is my birth father, but I have to get confirmation of that from my birth mother.

I believe that she lived in the Canton/Akron area prior to going to college and then dropping out to have me. I do not know if she returned to college after having me and placing me.
