As you can see the DODD family and the Grant family lived in the same county, so maybe this is the parents of Bryant Dodd still living with their parents in 1880.
ANGI DODD age 25 could have been the father and JULIE GRANT age 14 could have been the mother.
Notice her sister is MARY GRANT age 11 so she could be the wife of AUGUSTA EVANS that took the children into their home in Arkansas.

I wonder if instead of the father dying, they divorced and she took her maiden name back. That happened back then just as it does today. Maybe she then couldn't afford to feed the children (how many single woman would have been able to back then) and she sent them to live with her sister.
Another thing you might want to consider is that maybe they never married and she kept her maiden name, but the children did have the fathers name. For some reason in the 1880's there seemed to have been quite a few of those situations. I have two of my family links that did that in the 1880's.

I would suggest you ask someone at the REGULAR Rootsweb State boards and the SURNAME boards to do a marriage lookup, divorce lookup, and a death lookup for JULIA GRANT or JULIA DODD.
Example:
Subject : Need marriage & divorce for Julia Grant or Julia Dodd 1885 to 1899 in Choteau Montana or North Dakota.

I have been doing genealogy for 20 years now and many times information that is passed down has been forgotten, added to, or remembered incorrectly. Names are misspelled, transposed or not remembered and dates are just forgotten.
Will we be able to remember all our grandparents and parents information in 20 or 30 years, and yet the information you are searching for is from over 100 years ago.
I heard all my life that my great grandmother was an Indian Princess, well that just didn't pan out. My great grandmother was at least half Indian and her picture show she has all the Indian features and the black hair, but only her mother was Indian and not her father. Some of the decendants have dark brown eyes but really only a couple of my daddys siblings looked like they had Indian blood in them, and only one of their sons looks Indian. The rest of us are just plain white folk!

Just a hint for you: Go to a Public Library that has access to the census (Ancestry) and check the auctual scanned census link that is provided there. Many, many transcriptions that are at that site and also many online transcribed census have mistakes, so I advise everyone to check the census for themselves. You want your genealogy to be as correct as possible, and especially if you are going to put any of it into print. The information at the LDS site is usually from someone putting their genealogy on that site and much of it is incorrect, so make sure you verify everything you see with written published records or census.

All the Capitals of the States have State Genealogy Records from the entire state in one building. Many land records, family Bibles, birth records, marriage records, divorce records, wills, death records, obits and much more are found in books and magazines and on microfilm there.

Many Public Librarys in different states have their own genealogy departments with records. (we have a large genealogy department at our Public Library in our town and our records are from all over the U.S. and we have a genealogist on staff)

Some courthouses do still have old records available for research.

You can check for "transcribed" records at the genweb sites and the genweb archives haave search engines for the entire U.S. (argenweb, mtgenweb, ndgenweb)

By the way the death record information is always given by a relative or friend and they may not have known his mothers maiden name so someone could have guessed.


As for the WWI and WWII records there are many mistakes on them also. My ex-father-in-law is listed with the wrong birthyear and it says he was a teacher before going into service. Well he only went to 10th grade so that wasn't true. It also says he is married and has a child but he didn't have a child and I believe he was divorced at the time.
Was he a full-blooded card carrying, member of the tribe Indian? If not he could have listed himself white, or the person taking the information could have listed him that way.
