Ancestry.com has created a "new and improved" family tree service that allows you to start building a family tree directly on Ancestry.com. Apparently, it's replacing the "Online Family Tree" that is still around (if you've already created one; you can't create a new one) and which allowed you to download your information to your computer.
The "new and improved" Personal Member Tree does not allow this and also does not tell you anywhere that you won't be able to do so.
Those of us who volunteer to help other users in various software program boards are being inundated with complaints about THOSE programs (e.g., FTM) because they aren't "syncing" with Ancestry's Personal Member Trees.
What we're having to explain again and again (because it's not obvious on Ancestry) is that data entered into PMTs are not recoverable, exportable to GEDCOM, nor are they downloadable.
This is just plain BAD service a) not to support something so obvious and b) not to warn users about it.
So PLEASE make it a priority to allow Ancestry.com users the ability to download their data in GEDCOM format; in the interim, at LEAST edit your help file on PMTs so that it includes a warning that this data is not currently downloadable:http://ancestry.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ancestry.cfg/php/enduse...
