I do know that since I switched to Linux a couple of months ago, all the web sites I regularly visit load quickly and use less than half my RAM and maybe 100 MB of swap file - EXCEPT for Ancestry.com which quickly soaks up almost ALL of my RAM and goes up to 500 MB of the swap file. The IMPROVED census viewer requires me to exit and restart Firefox about once an hour. The search engine is still the worst I have ever used. In a recent search for my father, Arlie Murdock, I got 598 hits. Sorted by relevance, # 141 was Matthew Miertschin followed by Charlene Martignoni, J.T. Murdoch, and Ralph Martinez. Skipping to #581 I found Lourdes Moraidd followed by J.D. Mardock at #595. I would never claim to be a programmer, but I could write a better search program. If they would put some real programmers to work on the search engine, they might reasonably expect to gain some members who are actually interested in genealogy.
This site is the ONLY site I am PAYING to use and is the SLOWEST of all the sites I often visit.
PLEASE NO MORE EYE CANDY "IMPROVEMENTS"
I figure if you add one more improvement of this type, I will have to drop out or buy a new computer - AND, I have no intention of buying a new computer.
