I agree. In fact that is why my tree is public. To share/help others with what I find. I believe you gain much more from that.
My pet peeve is those who copy documents/photos etc to a private tree with 3000 people on it, and wont respond when you contact them. I am a genealogist, not just a family historian. Just saying...
