Don't panic - accepting a hint does not give anyone the ability to do anything to your tree. Only those people you invite AND give "editor" status can change your tree. I think the problem discussed above was at least in part because for a time, the default status of every invitee was editor, and sometimes the tree owner did not catch that. The current default status is "guest," so not likely this will happen inadvertently in the future.
