Help entering date in improved search field...

Okay, in a previous post I said I was an avid researcher, but not professional which leaves me sure that there is a simple answer that I should be able to figure out, but for some reason I am not finding it.

In the new search fields you have the option of entering a birth/death year, two questions...
1) What is the little arrow in the search field mean? that you actually mean 1902 or anything after it?
2)How do you enter a range? 1902 +/- 10 years and the like?

I was never really sure about the Year Range thing that is still on the Exact Search fields either, but that was a left-over question from the old system I kept forgetting to figure out. Year Range of what? the possible birth date? Their entire life? The records you want? I'm more interested in the questions above however as I almost never know the actual birth or death year.

A point in the direction to where this information might be in FAQ's would be fine.

Thanks
Jennifer
