I "deal" with the dim print on familysearch.org because there is so much good info there. The issue of faint colors and small font size has been much debated on the familysearch blog/feedback board, to no avail.

I suspect the issue is young programmers/designers who really don't understand older eyes. I'm under 70, vision still good (knock on wood), but it's still tough, some days, to decipher what is on screen.
