"For example, why can't we select multiple hint items to ignore? It seems like that would be a more useful update. Yes, the offending (to some) clip art would still be there, but, it would be less annoying if you could get rid of it in an expeditious manner."
Because it shouldn't be in the searches and hints to begin with! Being able to delete them quicker isn't solving the problem...it's just putting a bandaid on an arterial bleed. As someone else already pointed out, because of the way search algorithms work, it is making our search results WORSE. Also all this clip art is slowing down the system. Especially when multiple copies (and by multiple I mean HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS) of the same clip art get saved in the database. Check out this blog post for an example:http://buwt.blogspot.com/2013/01/a-picture-is-worth.html
In her example that was close to 1000 photos in 1 tree. Now multiply that by the millions of trees on Ancestry. Every time someone adds this clip art to the database that's another entry to the table. The bigger the database the slower the site becomes because the system has more to search. And it's useless JUNK!
Even for those who like to color their trees a system of badges could be helpful. Now you can only see one photo at a time in your tree view. If Ancestry did it right, when you hovered your mouse over someone's name and that box of added information came up, small icons for the badges could also appear so you could quickly identify that the individual was an immigrant, from Germany, AND a revolutionary war veteran instead of uploading your own clip art and only seeing one of the three.
As for selecting multiple hints to ignore at the same time, I've already suggested that in another thread as I'm sure others have.
