I am with you on old search. You put in what you want and you get a result based on that input. No hit or miss drop-downs, no fuzzy logic, no ignoring first names as a search parameter, etc.
Old search + wildcards seems to work 95% of the time. A big advantage of old search is that sometimes you want NO RESULTS to eliminate a location or a timeframe from your search. With new search every conceivable "almost match" has to be checked to make the search exclusionary.
A simple Boolean search would be much more effective.
Or, maybe I am just too old to learn new tricks.
