I was looking through the Ohio, Birth Index, 1908-1964 [database on-line] (USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2012) and am genuinely appalled at the types of transcription errors that I am seeing and the shear volume of the errors is also troubling. Given names, places of birth and "Additional information" are showing numerous errors through out the state.
I'm finding first names that are nothing consonants - these aren't names let alone words, and these are people that I'm familiar with. Counties renamed (Marion County is showing up in several records are Maria, etc. Cuyahoga County shows up with several spellings. The number of errors are too great to add "Additional information" on everyone of these.
Ancestry really needs to spot check these databases. I'm almost ready to call the question as to whether or not the database can be considered accurate.
