Under category of "recently added & updates records" I find: NEW "California County Births & Deaths 1849-1994"
I do very little research in CA but am interested in one particular person who I found basic death info on at ACOM at least 5 or more years ago. Today, I find the exact same info as I did years earlier except now there's also in small print a link to familysearch.org. Other than link to familysearch.org & annoying plug for using VitalCheck, what's new?
When I clicked on ACOM link to familysearch.org it brought me to generic LDS search for CA, not directly to document or even to right section to find document within familysearch.org. Further searching on familysearch.org uncovered "Los Angles 1940 death records" & there's 10 categories: "Death Certificates 1940 no 1-400", no 400-2100, no 2100-4000, etc. No where on the small amount of info on ACOM for the death is there a certificate number that evidently one needs to find a particular individual via familysearch.org.
Anyone familiar with (a) what actually constitutes "new" records added to ACOM and (b) how do you search the familysearch.org death records in Los Angeles County CA for 1940? I must be missing something on how to search CA death records without cert. number.
Person I'm searching is as shown on ACOM as:
California, Death Index, 1940-1997 about Mary Ellen Curran
Name: Mary Ellen Curran
Birth Date: 15 Aug 1875
Birth Place: Pennsylvania
Death Date: 19 Dec 1940
Death Place: Los Angeles
Mother's Maiden Name: Rafter
Father's Surname: Curran
Info I have is her parents were Mary RAFTER CURRAN b1854 Eng/d &Jun1898 Pittsburgh & Patrick Henry CURRAN b c1854 Ireland&d unknown, probably in PA. I'm attempting to verify this Mary Ellen CURRAN is actually the daughter of Mary & Patrick CURRAN. 1940 census info is useless. Only other sighting of Mary Ellen is in 1880 when she's 5, her brother Thomas 7, both living with their grandparents, Michael & Bridget RAFTER in Wilkins Twp, Allegheny County, PA.
I'm stuck and somewhat confused. Thanks for any help.
