I agree - there are many programs that won't even allow customization of relationships, or gender for that matter.
I've also talked with several people who want to be able to note a change in gender as well.
While we may not have ancestors or family members that fit these types of situations, software programs should be flexible enough to either a) offer more drop-down choices for relationships or b) allow easier customization.
