It is ironic that at the top of the home page, they tout "Introducing a new home page that's all about you" when in reality it has nothing to do with me the user and my preferences.
Anyway, I did find one workaround by making http://www.ancestry.com/search/ as my bookmarked link. This takes you directly to the search page where there isn't all the useless fluff of the home page.
