I agree it's difficult to index the census. Not sure if I could do it. However, it just seems to me that common sense does not always apply. For instance, in so many cases in the State of Georgia, why would the birthplace be listed as Georgia-the country. Same with India for Indiana and especially with European names. The most sensible avenue I would suggest is that Ancestry give us the same way to correct birthplaces that is available for names.
