I just spent several hours trying to make a little video for about one of my ancestors. It makes me wish that Ancestry.com had a way to upload video files similar to the easy process of uploading still images!
I think the ability to record video from a webcam is great if you want to sit a family member in front of the computer and have them tell an interesting story from the family's history (Come on, Grandad, tell us the story of how you captured those guys back in the war...")
If, however, you want to upload a video of your own creation, or a significant family history video event...well that becomes quite difficult!
Me, I wanted to explore some reasons as to why my 2nd Great Grandfather failed to show up for his draft muster in 1863. You can see the result at the link below, but making the darn film was not an easy process! It would have been a heckuva lot easier to have been able to make the film using some PC editing software, then just uploading it.
Ancestry.com, will you please reconsider your decision not to allow video uploads?
