Error correcting etiquette

I hope I'm not posting this question in the wrong forum.
I'd be interested in hearing opinions on correcting other people's errors. For instance, there is a member of my family that I've been researching, and I've found a several other trees pertaining to this person, some with correct data, some with wrong data. In this instance the wrong data is that the person(s) who have posted the data have the parents of the individua completely wrong. Is it proper to advise the person who posted the data that they have wrong information? It appears as though one person posted the incorrect data and several others have copied it. This is a case of just not checking things out thoroughly. I have found other errors, such as a couple being married on the day the wife was born, a child being born in Germany 10 years after the parents emigrated to America, etc. I'm sure we all might have an error or two in our trees and I know that I would like to be alerted to the fact if I have one. Opinions? Thoughts?
