If you do not maintain your own genealogy program on your own computer you run the risk that Ancestry will decide to replace the Ancestry online tree and you will lost anything you have worked to put there. I maintain both as I do not want to be held hostage to a commercial enterprise that can do anything it wants to do. We have seen this over and over with the new home page (yuck) the new search (double yuck) and other offerings from Ancestry. Remember that The Generations Network is a for profit company that does not maintain online ancestry trees for our benefit only. Be wise and keep your own data, upload or add as you will but don't let an online tree replace your own programs.
