I am trying to find out more details on a family mystery. My husbands great-grandfather James Bolton was born in Wigan, Lancashire, UK in June 1859. He married Sarah Ann Pennington in 1887 and moved to Oswestry, Shropshire, UK and they had 3 children: Evelyn, Charles & a baby boy John who died in infancy in 1892. Sometime after the baby died, Jaames abandoned Sarah and his children and left to go and seek his fortune. We know he left England early 1890s and I have found a record of him entering Lake Bennett, Yukon on SS Gleaver (Source: Gold Rush Database Sources NWMP at Dawson Docks).
The story in the family is that he was involved in a pub brawl and was shot dead somewhere in the Yukon in about 1902.
I have found a possible record of Sarah & the children travelling to the Yukon in 1902 presumably either to look for him or to bury him?
I have searched the cemetary records for Jame's grave and can find 2 possibles - 1 of an unknown Englishman and the other alloted to "Bolton".
The family would love to learn more of what happened to James. Sarah would never speak of him so it is a mystery.
If anyone can help it would br brilliant to hear from you.
