Locating where ashes were buried

My mother would love to know where her grandparent's ashes (she thinks they were cremated) were interred. Is there a way of searching records across the country, or would I need to contact individual parishes / authorities and ask them to check registers? Although they lived and died in the Sussex area she thinks the ashes may have been taken to either the Cheshunt or Edmonton areas.
