Can someone clarify.....my understanding of burials in Germany, the grave sites are only rented for a period of time 20-50 yrs(various sites indicate 20-30;30-40;30-50 yrs)
The deceased are not embalmed, so that natural decay takes place, does this mean there is nothing left? If there is (any remaining) then what happens to the remaining body? I am trying to understand, as my ancestors (before 1880's) would have been living and died in Germany.

Does the same occur in Poland, which was formerly part of Germany?

How would one go about locating a village; town that their ancestors lived, died in? It is my understanding that during WWII the records were destoryed, yet I have heard some may still exist in churches in both Germany and now Poland the part that was formerly Germany.

Thank you
