"JUNCTI JUVAMUS" was also used as the motto for a proposed union of German men's choir (maennerchor) directors. According to a March 18, 1899 newspaper article published in the Chicago newspaper "The Inter-Ocean," the union effort was launched during a meeting discussing rising anti-German sentiments in Chicago. Plans called for organizing German singing clubs (saenger-bunds) for the purpose of en masse performances meant to build goodwill for German-Americans.
