there is one cemetery on cemetery road which is very close to train station in Ludhiana and govt college for boys

Just inherited the family photo albums - on my husband's side. There is a photo of a "Vallis family grave" in the above noted Cemetery. From research, I can say that John and his wife Jane Cecilia and Patrick Walter and his wife Mary Florence are buried there. I feel sure there are more members of the Vallis family in that plot and if I could find out who they are, it would help my genealogy search.

From internet searches I'm getting the impression that this cemetery might be overgrown and neglected. Was wondering if anyone is planning a trip to this Cemetery and if they would be so kind as to take pictures of the Vallis Graves for me? Providing, of course, it does not put their health and safety in danger.

Before that we lived in Sydney, Australia and before that they lived in Chandigarh, Punjab in India until 1993. Since there are not many records of my family online and none in american records, I am having some problems finding information about my family, particularly on my maternal side. My mother's name is Neeta NAYYAR and my father's name is Jiwan Sat NAYYAR. My paternal grandfather's name is Sat Pal NAYYAR and he was born on 2 January, 1936 in Kunja, Pakistan. My paternal grandmother's maiden name was Rag MARWAH and she was born on 7 April, 1942 in Kunja, Pakistan. They were both born in the same village in Pakistan and were married in 1961 in Krukshetra, India. My maternal grandfather's name is Rajinder Kumar BHANOT and he was born on 1 March, 1938 in Jhang Manghiaha, Pakistan. My maternal grandmother's name is Usha PATHAK and was born on 15 July, 1940 in Lahor, Pakistan. They were married in 1961. Both sets of my grandparents migrated to India after India and Pakistan separated.
I am particularily interested in my great grandfather, my mom's mom's father. However I do not know his name, but his last name was PATHAK. I knew that he fought in World War I and World War II. I thought that there might be some war records of him.
I would also be interested in information about my great grandfather, my dad's dad's father. His name was Naranjandas NAYYAR. I know that he also fought in World War II.
Any information about my family would be greatly appreciated. Some other key words are NAYYAR, BHANOT, PATHAK, MARWAH

Replying out of curiousity - I have a Smith relative who I believe was buried in Lucknow, and one of her three marriages was to a Stephenson in Madras. She began life as Rebecca Tristram, (1857 Madras), married Uriah Stephenson and had four sons and a daughter, after Uriah's death, married Charles Smith, a further two sons, Charles and Hedley in the 1880;s, after the death of Charles, she married Eernest Draper and I believe, died herself in Lucknow in 1899. If any possible link, please be in touch.

Grave at Ludhiana - "Sacred to the memory of Major C. Andrews of the 2nd European Regt who departed this life on the 15th August 1842 aged 56 years. This tomb is created by his brother officers, to whom he was endeared by the kindness of his heart and benevolence of his disposition, as a testimony of their esteem and regard."

I was in St Patrick's in 2009 with my sister. The priest there, Fr. Simon Almeida (fr_simona@hotmail.com), helped me find my brother's grave in the cemetery behind the church (St Sepulchre). I was in contact with him by email before I arrived and he was very helpful...found the records which are all intact. He got me a copy of the burial certificate and showed us the grave. I'm not sure if he is still at the church now.
My sister was baptised there in 1943 and she was able to get a copy of her baptismal certificate from the church office while we were there.

Sorry to disappoint you but I left Pune and returned home to Australia some 3 and a half years ago. St Patrick's Cathedral does still exist and is to be found at 1-B Prince of Wales Drive near Race Course, Pune 411001. Phone 26332329. I have not been to it but could see its spire in the distance when I attended the nearby horse races.

maternal grand parents were buried in bombay' my grandmother was jeanette kidd cabral born in scotland.
grandfather was edwaard cabral. their graves were "the rock of ages" with the woman clinging to the cross.
They were prominent business peoplein bombay and lived in t
he malabar hills in the laTE 1800'S and early to mid 1900
I believe my grandfather was a cotton broker etc
they had four children--myrtle,edward,hilda and olive.
as far as I know-----myrtle married von winkler, hilda married capt crole-reese who was the harbour master in bombay olive married a military man.

Its most important to me that my children and grand children
and great grand children know and be proud of their heritage

I am trying to find birth and death records of my maternal grandmother Ethel Mary Simpson who was born on 5 Dec 1906 in Bangalore India and died on 6 June 1938. She was buried at Hosur Road, Cemetry - but bears no headstone. Any suggestions as to who I can write to those records? Can't find her on FamiySearch.org, even though I was able to find her parents' marriage record in Bangalore 1902. (Parents: George Clement Simpson and Ann Labeyrie).

There is the Kirkee War Memorial (WWI & WWII) plus two other Christian cemetries in Kirkee, Pune.

Separately, there are the St.Sepulchre's Cemetery (connected to the St. Patrick's Cathedral) and the Indian Christian Cemetry both on the Sholapur Road, Hadapsar, Pune.

There is yet another Old Cemetery next to the Pune Cantonment Board (Pune Military Cantonment) at Golibar Maidan, Camp, Pune.

The cemetery contains 1,668 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. The KIRKEE MEMORIAL stands within the cemetery and commemorates more than 1,800 servicemen who died in India during the First World War, who are buried in civil and cantonment cemeteries in India and Pakistan where their graves can no longer be properly maintained. This total includes the names of 629 servicemen whose remains were brought from Bombay (Sewri) Cemetery for re-interment here in 1960. On the same memorial are commemorated almost 200 East and West African servicemen who died in non-operational zones in India in the Second World War, and whose graves either cannot be located or are so situated that maintenance is not possible.
