My greatgrandfather died in Greeley, Weld, CO on 9 22 1927 and is supposedly buried in the Evans CO Cemetery -- Lot 4, Block 2. I have been trying to find out if the cemetery records/tombstone still exists as I'd like to know if his real name is Oren Marshall or Marshall -- also wonder if his wife, Mary Lydia Brown Skinner who died sometime after 1930 - not sure when - is buried with him and when she died. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Barb

I just got on familysearch.org. They have both a M.O. Skinner listed with a mary lydia brown and a child lillie may skinner. Also Orin M. Skinner with a Lydia Brown and child Mary Skinner. It is a free website and might just give you some of the leads you need.

Lee, my wife & I both looked in different areas of the Pagosa cemetery for an hour today and ran out of time.
The only old cemetery there is Hill Top. We will be going back again before winter to do some cleaning so if you could find some more info (other relatives last names, etc.) or get some info from the town clerk it would be helpful. Email me at cabinetmakerinq@gmail.com so we won't have to communicate here. The Pagosa clerks phone # is 970 264 4151
They are doing some work there now and have posted block # signs so maybe they are updating who is there.

Hello. Thank you so much for your offer to look up cemeteries. My father's family came from Mancos, Colorado. The family names include Thornhill, Reid, and Bowman. I am specifically looking for my great grandfather whose name was OLIVER JACKSON BOWMAN. He was born in Kansas (I believe) in approximately 1856 and died in Montezuma Cty., Colorado in or around February of 1939. I have been able to find birth and death records for his wife (Minnie Ann Reid Bowman) and 3 of their 4 children. However, I cannot find any records pertaining to Oliver's death expect a family tree on Ancestry that indicates he died in Mancos in Feb of 1939. His wife and children lived in California at the time and Oliver is listed both in California and Colorado. Apparently he traveled between the 2 states. Anyway, before I write a book about all this, would you mind checking for me? I really appreciate you for your time and, of course, for any info you might find. My direct e-mail address is vickiirwin8@hotmail.com. Again, thank you so very much. Vicki

He died 9 22 1927. If you get to that cemetery, I'd love to have you look there to see a birth date and listed real name. I'm looking for Mae (May) Crosser Hager who died 1922 and her husband Henry. Thanks

cindy crosser klebsch

Hi Sheree'
The Evergreen and Catholic Cemetery Records in Leadville were compiled by Nancy Manly and Sherill Warford. They both volunteered in the library for around thirty-years. The library provided the Chamber of Commerce with the copies that they have. I have digitized those records including maps and they are available on our website.

My cousin and I actually visited Leadville this past May, 2011. We started out by visiting the Lake co. Library and met their wonderful librarian, Jsnice. The cemetery record are @ the library. With Janice's help, we found the site of our great uncle's grave and took pics of it later @ Evergreen. There was still snow in the cemetery in late May and we had some snow flurries both days we were there. The city is over 10,100 ft; so if you visit be prepared for the effects of high altitude and LOW oxygen! My arms and legs didn't want to move...LOL

Saw your query and noticed you are researching Aude. There was an Aude family that lived in Winfield. My ancestors moved from Leadville to the mining town of Winfield which is up Clear Creek Canyon. Not far from Leadville. There are two Aude children buried in the cemetery up there. Fredrick who died in 1885 and Georgina Katharina who died in 1887. I might have a little more info if you think they are related to you.
Srehbein

Looking for Alice Crump, buried near Leadville, Co

My great-grandmother was killed in a car accident near Leadville in October 1961. I am trying to locate the cemetery she is buried in, hoping that my father and I can come visit. I can find many newspaper articles about her car accident from Oct. 30 1961, but I have no idea where she was buried.

My father says he remembers by grandpa getting a telegram about her death. My grandpa came back alone for the funeral and always said she was buried in Leadville. I just cannot find any record of this.

Her maiden name was Alice Wohlgehagen. Her married name Alice Crump. She was born April 9, 1901. Does anyone have any information?

Thanks for any help that you provide!
-Misty

The Joseph Elliott buried in Red Cliff was killed in a mining accident in Rifle, left behind 5 children and young wife. Fairly common name and sadly common fate. May not be the same one. The Red Cliff Joseph Elliott was married to Elsie DaLee.

There was a man that held all the records of both of the cemeteries in Leadville, he has since given them to the Visitors bureau. You can stop there and view them. If you had twins that died, they may have been buried in St. Joseph's cemetery. Check there too!

I do not live in Colorado but go every other summer. I have done lots of research in Leadville! Some of the places that help are
1. The county court house located in Leadville. The people there are very friendly and even let me into the vault to research my records. They have burial cards from some of the mortuaries that have closed. I found those cards to hold lots of information and helped with finding my relatives graves.
2. The librarian at the Leadville library is great. lakecountypubliclibrary.com She helps with anything they have and is a great person to boot! Her name is Janice Fox! She runs a Facebook site called Colorado Mountain History.
3. The usgenweb.com site, Colorado state, Lake County webpage and the Trails of the Past Lake County site run by Gail Kilgore is wonderful. She is very helpful too!

I hope you find what you are looking for. I have Trevethan, Thompson, Gossage, Gilroy, Hewitt, Sweeney, Foreman, Aude and Pierce that I am researching in Leadville.
Happy Hunting and I hope you find the graves you are looking for.
Sheree' Clark Belanger
