Linda,

I went to the cemetery yesterday and didn't find any Nash graves. Many of the stones are badly weathered and damaged.

I sent a previous message stating that I could not find Nathan Nash listed in the cemetery, but went over anyway.

Linda,

Before I head over to take a photo, I did an online search of the cemetery. I found this info online:

http://www.hale-collection.com/405-7-slasson-cemetery.htm

I didn't see Nathan Nash listed anywhere. Are you sure you have the correct cemetery?

New Haven Colony cemeteries are very old. A lot of them aren't managed anymore. I'm lucky I don't have a cemetery in my yard (there's a few on my street).

This is a good reference site where you can request whoever it is you're looking for and search via web. There's a database of the people buried there.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=10...

Call Nolan's Monuments in Hamden, CT; they administer the cemetery. That said, the cemetery was mismanaged before they became entrusted with its care, and all they have is a lot map with the owner's names. Individual burials are not known/listed.

Thanks for responding Megan. Since my original post in 2005, I have found the cemetery, wrote up the find-a-grave position, requested the photo, and then traced all the Hawes' in that cemetery, and created those gravesites online as well. Yes, I certainly have enjoyed researching the Haweses. I am extremely interested in anything you find in your search for where his home was. I have a lot on him and his wife and family on my family tree here at Ancestry, under the name of Lindy's Legacy. Just give me a shout when you find more info and I would be very interested in your results. Thanks again for responding to my post!

He's buried in Union Cemetery (the cemetery at the end of Sterling Hill Rd. in Moosup) and you can find pictures of his grave as well as his wife's at Find a Grave. I'm trying to locate where his home in Sterling was in order to map out some historical locations for the Sterling Historical Society, and came across your topic on a google search. A few members of Almira's family are also buried in that cemetery as well. Hope this helps, if you hadn't learned of this already. It appears their graves weren't indexed in the Hale Collection, so it's possible the stones were placed many years after their deaths, even 30+ years.

I'm including the web address of the Hale Collection for Middlesex County. Middletown is in Middlesex County, so scroll down the page and you'll see the listing for both the Old and New St. John cemetery.

The Hale Collection is a listing of headstones and inscriptions by cemetery for most of Connecticut.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

John

http://www.hale-collection.com/middlesex.htm

P.S. If you DO check the newspapers, you might want to look for a BIRTH announcement, which if there will give you a better idea on the time frame. If the birth was recorded with the town clerk in the town of birth, that also might give you a little help on the dates.
Good luck in your search.
John W.

It might be a long shot, but it would be worth a trip to your local library (call them first) if they have the newspapers for the area the child died in on microfilm. If they do, look through the obituaries for a week BEFORE and two weeks after the date of death. The reason to look before is in case the date of death is off; just hope it's not off more than that.

There should be a death certificate at the town hall. Also, many town halls keep burial books and some indicate the plot number. At any rate, call the town hall and they can tell you who is in charge of the cemetery. If you are lucky, they might actually have a cemetery map.

I hadn't thought about the church not having info if the infant had not been baptized, although we cannot imagine my grandmother not having an infant baptized. We didn't talk much about him as she always became upset, having lost a child myself, I can understand her struggle.

We are almost certain of the cemetery, I would like to mark the grave, for my late grandmother if nothing else.

I will keep looking, thanks for your input, I do appreciate it very much.

Sherri

the church might not have any info because he passed before being baptized. It's not uncommon for that to happen. Keep looking for the death record. It would be required, though might be mispelled, or misfiled. Is it that you are just trying to mark the grave or are you unsure as to which cemetery he is buried at?

-Donna
