I am interested in a cemetery in Onslow County (maybe Pender?) possibly called “Sugar Maple Cemetery.”
My gggg grandfather James Foy (1737-1822) owned a plantation called “The Sugar Maple” in what was then considered Maple Hill, NC (Near Pender/Duplin/Onslow). The community of Maple Hill is, of course, still there today but I think the location of the plantation was outside of the present day boundaries of Maple Hill. James Foy, along with several of his children (including my ggg grandfather Morris Foy) and grandchildren were listed as buried at Sugar Maple Plantation.
I personally do not know if there IS an actual cemetery there today. I have heard that it does exist and is located on Hwy 17, about 3 miles N of Verona – near Southwest Bridge, and that is it called “Sugar Maple Cemetery.” Or it may not be in that location at all, I’m just not sure!
If anyone has any information on if there is an actual cemetery, and if so, more of an exact location, I would love to know!
