And thanks for that also! I was fairly certain it meant something about the U.S. but not sure what. I have been told the McCanns came over straight to Canada, but a lot of immigrants came in through the states. I do now know the family came over about 1843 so that gave them some time to move elsewhere. Patrick was only 20, I believe, in the 1851 census so that makes me wonder why he was in the states when the rest of his family were in Canada - but then maybe his whole family wasn't in Canada - oh, no, not another research day! Thanks!
