Religion in 1851 Census

Hello,

I am hoping someone can shed some light on these seemingly interesting inconsistencies in the 1851 census for the McComb family located in Hope, Durham County, Canada West (Ontario).

Both the head of the family and his wife are shown as being born in Ireland. However, the husband has his religion as Church of Scotland and his wife as Church of England. I'm at rather a loss as to figure out why they would have be affiliated with either of these churches, when they are Irish and why they would be different between the spouses.

Thanks in advance to anyone with more knowledge in this matter than I can claim! :-)

Tam
