Classification: Lookup
Surnames: MURÉ, MURRÉ, MURAY, MURRAI, MURRAY, MUREY
I am looking for my husband's maternal great-grandfather.
When he was a young teen, he ran away from home and went to live in a logging camp. His obituary said he was from "Three-Rivers" (Trois-Rivieres) but he was actually born “Antoine Muré,” in LA MALBAIE, Quebec, July 2, 1856, the son of Emilien Muré and Séraphine Gaudreau.
Because he told people he was "from" Trois-Rivieres, and he was 14/15 in 1871, I suspect he will be found in the 1871 census in that region.
His name will probably be listed as Antoine Muré, or some other form of Murray, depending on the census taker. He was born 2 July 1856, so he would have been 14 or 15 years old in 1871. He was not living with his own family.
He will probably be found in a logging camp in the Trois Rivieres area.
If you can't look this up for me, but you know where this information is located, that would also be helpful. Thank you so much. I really appreciate your help.
I am also interested in understanding the lives of the people in the logging camps.
In 1861, Antoine is still with his family in LA Malbaie.
In 1880, he is in a logging town (Alpena, Michigan) living in a boarding house/hotel.
In 1881, 3 months before marrying, I cannot find him in the Canadian Census.
His father, Emilien, was in LA Malbaie in 1881.
