I have just returned my efforts to this family. The answer is No, I have not moved forward. I have had several generous offers of help, but I have not been good to follow through!
I have difficulty reading the Census at the www.arkivalieronline.dk site. Martin Jensen is found in the 1880 in Vonslid by Parish, Norre Tyrstrup Dst.Vejle County, household 5.I cannot read who is there with him. COuld you help with that?
I would like to learn of any descendants of his. Can you refer me to a researcher or could you do this? I am willing to hire help.

Christian Ringe - born april 29. 1883, in Kolt, Jutland Denmark. His parents: Father:Hans Marius Schjørring
Mother: Elvine Nielsine Ringe, born 1851-1916.
Elvine Ringe are a sister to my 3x-great grandmother.

Thank you for your follow up on my Jensen/Olesen Family notice a year ago. I have not pursued this family recently. I have been working with my own family but still interested in Olesens/Jensens. My mother has passed and I am now able to go forward more with research. She required a lot of care........a wonderful mother.

No, not in this marriage record.

I am not able to read where Franz was born,
and I have not been able to find a birth record for Anne in Ringe or Rynkeby Parish.

He is staying and working in Ørderup (Toftlund).

Anne Margrethe Jacobsen, maid, born in Rynkeby,
Fyn 21. February 1831. Vaccinated 2. July 1833
by district surgeon Mr. Kegel in Nyborg. In the past one and a half year she have stayed and worked in Ørderup (Toftlund)

Rynkeby, Fyn ?? A Parish, and a name of a place in Ringe Parish.

I have looked for a record in Parish Rynkeby,
and in Parish Ringe, no record found.

Thank you so much Kaj for replying to my query about my great great grandparents. I sure wish I could read Danish - so I could interpret the parish records. I didn't know that Anne Jakobsen (1831-1920) was from Rynkeby. I did know she was married on 28 Oct 1855 in Toflund.

Anne married Franz Horn (1832-1914) - does it mention his parents name or where he was from? Did it mention Anne's parents names?

In this book I read, that she was born in Rynkeby,
(Bjerge,Odense), and I am not able to find a record there or in Ringe !

I have found my g-g-grandfather Frantz Christoph Horn (b 3 jun 1832 in Schleswig,dnmk)marriage record. He married Anne Margrethe Jakobsen (born 21 Feb 1831 in Ringe Sogn). married on 28 Oct 1855 in Toflund, Haderslev. Hello Hedvig, and thank you for your response regarding Martin Jensen. My goal is to locate, with help, the family of Martin. Did he marry? Children? I would ultimately like to locate family today in Denmark. I have history regarding his parents and siblings. I have the 1850 & 1860 Danish Census records and Martin in the 1880. His sister Karen Marie came to Stillwater, Minnesota in 1881 with her husband Soren Olesen and children. I have photo's and family history to share.

What exactly is it that you want to find out? Going back in time? I can help by searching the records that are on the internet but cannot go physically to Vejle or to the Regional Archive in Jutland. If that is ok there is no charge.

It seems Jens Jensen father was Jens Sorensen and owned "the mill" in Skagen, Denmark.

George Hendry 1842 & family, census confusion

George Hendry b; 1842, Scotland & wife Mary b; 1846, Liverpool were my second Great Grandparents on my fathers side but I'm finding it difficult to get any information about them and hope someone can help.

I know the 1891 census I have is correct because when his daughter Janet (my G/Grandmother) married Hans Sofhus Bernhard Hausen (a Mariner) on 2 Oct 1891 her address was 26 Leyden Street, Kirkdale, Liverpool which is the address she was living at on the census in April of that year & both pieces of info give her fathers name as George, a Cooper.
By 1901, when my grandfather was born, Hans had become Henry Bernard Hansen, occupation still the same but written as Seaman Merchant Service. My grandfather was born at 81 Ruskin Street, Kirkdale, same address as Mary Hendry (informant & present at birth) gives as hers.
I've looked up that address on the 1901 census but another family are there. It's possible house numbers changed as I've found that in other areas.

By 1911 neither the Hendrys or the Hansens can be found. I've tried various spellings and immigration/emigration.

I think I might have found a marriage for Janets brother William who was also a Seaman. But not definite about that. Right year of birth and the only one in area in 1911 that fits but occupation Dock worker. Could be right as he and wife have 2 young children so he might have taken land based job when he married.

The other census results that came up are for a George Hendry in 1881, wife Bridget. Childrens names/DOB's same or similar.

Discrepencies between census results I have looked at; Janet 1891 census born Liverpool but on 1901 she has herself as born Scotland.
Both George's are Coopers and have children with same names born same or similar years. Difference between husband & wifes age is 4 years for both Mary & Bridget.
I wondered if Mary and Bridget were same person.

Have only found one poss marriage 1869 to a Bridget Matthews (some other trees on Ancestry have this also).
The more I look at these census returns the more I think they are the same family.

Handwriting on 1881 atrocious so think the name Talon could actually be John, though there is a Catherine there who doesn't appear with family in 1891. There is a poss match working as a servant in Bootle and a marriage in 1895 showing her father as George, a Cooper and mother Bridget.

Have found George & Bridget on 1901, George still Cooper but at this time no children at home.
If they are the same family why is it Bridget on the 1881 & 1901 census returns and in the middle, 1891 Mary?

Martin Jensen, b. 1853 Kollerup Parish to Jens Christian Jensen and Maren Nielsdatter is last located in the 1880 Danish Census in Vonslid Parish, Norre Tyrstrup Dst., Vejle County. His sister is my ancestor who arrived in America with her husband and children in late 1880. Does anyone know of a Genealogist/Researcher in Vejle County, Denmark who could pursue the family of Martin Jensen or where I could inquire to locate a qualified researcher in that area?

Thanks, this is a great website. Does anyone know what the following phrase means?

Forsørges af Fattigvaesnet

The website says that the first part, Forsørges af, means "Provided by" but the last word I can't find a translation for. I think it means poor or pauper judging from the other words on the occupation list but I am not sure. This phrase is used on the 1880 Danish census for a widow lady 76 years old, and it is listed as her occupation.

Is there an online Danish to English translation guide for common occupations found in the censuses? This would be most helpful as many of us can not discern enough letters in the handwritten records to use the standard dictionary or translating sites, but we could match Danish words by general appearance, especially if the list was restricted to the subject of occupations. In lieu of this, if a few people could to respond here with their own short lists, however incomplete, it would undoubtedly help many of us who don't have Danish language skills.

the problem with danish vital records is the point of entry is the parish and if that is not known the task is laborious in extreme.

Images are available on film and on line http://www.arkivalieronline.dk/ bit they are arranged by location and date

and not yet indexed or transcribed with the exception of some earlier census http://www.ddd.dda.dk/

when you join the army you tell the recruiting sergeant what to write on the form

First thought is that he may have jumped ship
(in Liverpool?)

or left Denmark when he was a conscript in the danish army with out permission or be running away from a criminal prosecution

I dont know how much I can help you if it does not particularly say he was born in Denmark, but I will ask someone who knows about english military matters. There was a census in Denmark i 1906 but not knowing an address makes it impossible to search for him.

Codition; Bachelor
Rank or Profession; Private 2nd Battalion, Royal Tank Corps. No; 7872123
Residence; Pinehurst Barracks, Farnborough
Fathers Name & Surname; Henry Bernard Hanson
Rank or Profession of Father; Seaman.
He married Caroline Ada Morris, aged 21, Spinster, Domestic Cook of 9 Maybury Lane, Frimley. Her father was Frederick Morris, a Woodman.

I also have a copy of his death cert which is misleading. He died in January 1970 and his widow was the informant on the cert and she gives his date & place of birth as 12 August 1901, Liverpool.

Thinking that for some reason my father & grandmother had lied about him coming from Denmark, I looked up William Hanson born Liverpool & sent off for a copy of birth cert for one who was born closest to Liverpool. But the fathers name & profession did not match.

That he came from Denmark was always spoken of in a secretive way. My father said he came to England looking for work, but that he should not have stayed here. I had the impression that, certainly in the early years, he was afraid of being sent back to Denmark.
But how did he get into the army? Could he have had false papers and is the name of his father as given on the marriage cert even true?

How can I get to the bottom of this?
