I found an old correspondence from my aunt (now deceased)mentioning some cousins of her father's. I've searched under her grand-uncles' names but no families turned up that included those names among the daughters. I know the grand-aunts' first names but not their married names, so the best I can do is search for all "Mary's," "Jane's," (the aunts), and "Myrtle's," and "Mabel's," and hope that I can match them up. But Ancestry's search engine return other names and locations far different from the ones I enter.
I would do better if I browse the "raw" scans. I could browse through all the census records in the two most likely counties, without getting all the hits halfway across the country. But I know that I'd wind up zoning out just before I got to the right page.
Does anyone know of a better search engine for the 1900 to 1920 censuses for northern New Jersey? Or have any better suggestions?
